COLUMBIA — University of South Carolina students could be fined and suspended if they fail to get monthly COVID-19 tests the school is mandating in the spring semester.

The state’s largest college is requiring monthly checks after it needed T-shirt giveaways and prize drawings at times to conduct nearly 50,000 student tests on campus since August. An unknown number of tests were conducted off campus.

This is The University of South Carolina. I should not be surprised really. There are so many false positives, negatives, a negative in the morning and positive in the afternoon.

I was never a student there but worked at the campus for a while.

The inmates ran the asylum then. Now they own it outright.

Think of how useless a COVID test is. It's only good for the amount of time between when the swab is taken (not when the results come back) and when the next person coughs on you or you touch what an infected person did.

Swab - sample taken away to lab - coughed on - infected - test results come back negative - "Congratulations, you're clear. Proceed as planned to go about your work." (Walking among others and spreading COVID the whole way).

A buddy of mine gets tested for his job at an off-site location every morning but is exposed to hundreds of people before he even reaches the job site. It's asinine.

If students had any sense at all then they would just not sign up. Problem solved.

Won’t be long they’ll have to have proof of vaccination to even attend. Crazies.

PCR test?

40 cycles?

May as well be flipping a two-headed coin.

Positive or... positive.

Should the students take any cans of Coca-Cola in to get these softdrinks tested too? If their Coke tests positive, can they still safely drink it? /sarcasm

I think it is administrators with nothing to do that want to appear that they are doing something. Maybe it is CYA or just some eggheads advertising how much of a douche they can be

The tests for the corona virus are notoriously unreliable in their results:

The creators of the RT-PCR test, the most commonly used coronavirus test yields between 80 and 97 percent false positive results

Why should they get tested?

They are not an at risk group.
