Anything less that that is easily defeated. A software developer with even modest skills could put in code to only turn on the vote skimming code on November 4th at 12:00 AM and turn it off at 6 AM the next day, that way the pre-election certifications would pass and any post election machines audits would pass. This is also why I hope the audit guys were smart enough to set the system clock to November the 5th @ 2AM.

But can THIS approach “be easily defeated”??

“States would only be issued blank ballots equaling the number of registered voters.”

Registration files are full of those that are dead or have moved.

How does a person vote if ballot is lost. in mail.

Unused ballots can be voted by workers.

"What prevents the software from being altered during counting ?"

Either hardware or software (or both) provisions preventing any such changes. With open source operating software AND hardware, promulgating any such action "should" be difficult in the extreme.

Proof is in the pudding but pudding is always full of holes. Good luck but there is no software that cannot be hacked ....

Excerpts

TYPES OF ELECTION CRIMES
Election fraud usually involves corruption of one of three processes:
the obtaining and marking of ballots, the counting and certification of election results, or the registration of voters.

The federal government asserts jurisdiction over an election offense to ensure that
basic rights of United States citizenship, and a fundamental\
process of representative democracy, remain uncorrupted.

In Coy, the Supreme Court held that Congress had authority under the Constitution’s Necessary and Proper Clause to regulate any activity during a mixed federal/state election that exposed the federal election to potential harm, whether that harm materialized or not.

Digital technology, or the lack thereof, has nothing to do with election integrity.

Yep... It's WAY too hard to deal with people who look you right in the eye and lie like dogs...

The democrats now believe that He with the MOUTH gets to be God.

It's a tool, just like pen and paper used to be.

Odd that you ignored the rest of my post.

Doesn't matter how many "tools" you have if the populace is infested with amoral people determined to cheat.

I responded to your single line. I already know the quotation.

""All that is necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing".

I made a constructive suggestion. "YOU" have "done nothing".

malach, I agree with much of what you discussed.

You implied election workers are not professionals. Maybe some of the supervisors know a lot about what constitutes fraud, but maybe they are not hired for competence. They got hired because they have degree or for political reasons. Whatever. This is the careless manner in which government is run.

And the failure of law enforcement and the lack of will in the people to see bad actors get punished is another cause of the problem.

On the subject of blockchain, I’ll note that having an uneraseable record of transactions is an advantage, but the lack of any trusted authority behind crypto-currency is a license for criminals to attack.

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/08/alleged-sim-swapper-arrested-in-california/

Story above: a law enforcement task force in Silicon Valley tried to track down criminals who were making a fortune targeting people who attend conferences and talk on-line about the merits of crypto-currency.

John Adams has some thoughts on your idea:

"Your solution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate for the use of any other."

The problem is let's say the FEC implements something like this and states accept it. The "Peter Strocks" at the FEC will corrupt it. Bet your life. FISA warrants anyone?

Uh, Adams also worked like a dog to fix the problems he saw and come up with an all-new system. So, there is corruption....we should just give up?? Screw that!

Not not give up and do nothing but just be very wary of the chicken house watchers and the potential mischief they could do.

Which is precisely what my proposal is intended to do. If you or other commenters think it is insufficient or flawed...point the flaw out and/or suggest how they can be fixed.

My proposed system is far, far more secure than the existing commercial software/hardware systems.
