It is worded oddly. Every resignation letter I have written has included the sentence, “I resign my position as x to be effective x date,” including positions I had to resign to take a new position at the same place.

Bill Barr is not a young man and does not seem very fit.

I have no idea how old Rosen and Donoghue are, but I bet they are at least a decade younger.

It could be that Barr just didn’t think he was up to the task of doing what needed to be done in the next few weeks or he was so compromised by his relationships with the deep state, that whether or not was ready to take them down, he knows that for him to be involved in this isn’t a “good look.”

He never struck me as the type of guy who wanted glory or to be in the spotlight. Maybe he just doesn’t want to deal with all that will be coming his way. He’s likely quite willing to let some younger guy became famous instead.

Or maybe he agrees with Trump about 80% of the people who are to be taken down but not the 20% who are his friends and he wants to save. He needs someone else to be the bad guy and make the painful calls. Perhaps he will come back when it is done.

See that’s exactly the wording that was missing that is giving me pause. I had to do the exact same thing when I moved divisions or commands as a Naval Officer. The way this letter reads is as a temporary - I’m taking leave and will be out of pocket - type of thing.

One of the drops talks about Barr getting a lot of acrimony coming up... wondering if this will be the basis for that.

You made a lot of good points in your post. One thing I’ve noticed about the President is that he seems to hire for specific tasks. It’s a unique and signature approach to project and personnel management, especially for the Leader of the free world. When the task has been completed, he hires the best person for the next task. We saw it repeatedly during the 2016 campaign.

I always got the sense that Bill Barr was enticed out of retirement for a specific purpose, and once he fulfilled that purpose, it was always intended that he return to retirement.

There are many really decent people who served under derp Presidents who love the Republic enough to want to protect and defend it. BB always seemed like one of those to me, which would explain his willingness to serve for a specified period and a specified purpose.

YMMV
