A 24-year-old Russian woman was electrocuted when her charging iPhone fell into the water as she was taking a bath, according to a report.

Olesya Semenova’s lifeless body was found by her roommate in their apartment in Arkhangelsk, East2West News reported.

“I screamed, shook her, but she was pale, did not breathe and showed no signs of life,” Daria told the emergency operator. “I was really scared. When I touched her, I got an electric shock.” She added that she found Semenova’s iPhone 8 in the water — still charging.

My guess is that there was no GFI instant circuit breaker on the electrical outlets in her bathroom. Unlike the US, where such outlets are mandated.

It’s the amps that kill, not the volts,

But still, I doubt seriously you could be electrocuted with a USB charger.

With a 240v plug

Seeing as it was in Russia, that's most likely.

Bet she had an extension cord from the wall outlet to the charger. The extension cord attached to the charger is what fell into the tub. If I’m correct, the phone charger has nothing to do with the story except to attract people to the article.

“Why didn’t it electrocute the woman who reached in to get it?”

Article says it did:

“When I touched her, I got an electric shock.”

But she was not in the bathtub, submerged in water and unable to escape, so when she got a shock she would naturally pull her hand away and break the circuit.

I don’t think so...

Someone should check if this guy recently took out a life insurance policy on her.

The charger converts the 120V to the lower volt phone so if dropped in water, there is no conversion taking place. The bath is taking on the full 120 v......

I just did a search and other such deaths have happened.......

Then she wouldn’t have gotten a shock, like she said

I don’t know how this could be more clear. Obviously, a COVID death.

Well, if the bathtub didn't get her, she probably would have ended up like this poor girl anyway:

I was basing it on our 120V outlets but apparently Russia runs on 220 V.....

And one has to wonder if they have the same circuit breakers we have here in the states.

I was thinking there had to be some sort of “third party” cord, or charger, or something.

And really...these people did not have “ground fault” plugs in their bathroom? Yikes.

Most likely the walwart part was on extension cord and went in water too

Well, that’s suicide. Everyone knows it’s only safe to prepare salads in the shower.

There is probably insurance involved and the phone wasn’t the only device that visited the water. Should be out on Dateline in a couple years.
