WASHINGTON, Saturday, Dec. 8.
The Senators from the Slaveholding States are in conference to-day at the Capitol, in reference to the political state of the country. The meeting is without respect to party.
WASHINGTON, Sunday, Dec. 9.
The only result of the Southern Senatorial caucus yesterday, was the assurance that eight States are certain to secede. Most of the Southern Senators, including Vice-President BRECKINRIDGE, were present, and the prospects of the country were freely discussed. A large majority considered it too late to save the present Confederacy, but expressed the belief that a new Union would be speedily formed. Senator HEMPHILL was absent from sickness, but Senator WIGFALL declared that Texas would be an Independent Power within sixty days. The caucus adjourned with the hope that if disunion was to come, it might be peaceable, as a civil war would end in a military despotism.
Senator WADE is said to be preparing a regular war speech, in which he will advocate force in executing the Federal laws in the seceding States. Senator PUGH, on the other hand, advocates peace, and denies that the popular sentiment in Ohio favors hostilities towards the South. He thinks that all the Southern portion of Ohio would sympathize with a Southern Confederacy.
The impression is gaining ground here that the secession of the Gulf States will force the border States to go with them, to avoid being left in a hopeless minority in the present Confederacy; and that before the 4th of March Virginia and Maryland will have joined the other Southern States. As these States would carry the District of Columbia with them, the question is being asked here, where will LINCOLN be inaugurated?

How did “The Secessionist Movement” become “The Disunion Movement?”
I think the editors decided “secessionist” was becoming monotonous. They go back and forth.
In modern life, we can prevent CW2 by pushing Sanctuaries for conservative values. Liberals already set the precedent with cities and states where cops were punished for cooperating with border patrol. Create Sanctuaries for freedom of speech or more Second Amendment sanctuaries, and arrest liberal fascists who attempt to violate our rights.
