The 2017-2018 influenza epidemic is sending people to hospitals and urgent-care centers in every state, and medical centers are responding with extraordinary measures: asking staff to work overtime, setting up triage tents, restricting friends and family visits and canceling elective surgeries, to name a few.
“We are pretty much at capacity, and the volume is certainly different from previous flu seasons,” says Dr. Alfred Tallia, professor and chair of family medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey. “I’ve been in practice for 30 years, and it’s been a good 15 or 20 years since I’ve seen a flu-related illness scenario like we’ve had this year.”
“We had to treat patients in places where we normally wouldn’t, like in recovery rooms,” says Camins. “The emergency room was very crowded, both with sick patients who needed to be admitted and patients who just needed to be seen and given Tamiflu.”
In California, which has been particularly hard hit by this season’s flu, several hospitals have set up large “surge tents” outside their emergency departments to accommodate and treat flu patients. Even then, the LA Times reported this week, emergency departments had standing-room only, and some patients had to be treated in hallways.

Saw the Dr. 2-3 minutes. "take to aspirin, drink lots of water, come back if things get worse"
So, having hospitals at capacity isn't a new thing.
It's a Newsom thing
NY didn’t feel the need to use tents this year. They just took the sick people and shoved them into nursing homes.
Seemed like a good idea at the time.
People, we are being played.
Sent the Navy Hospital ship away and told the NG to GTFO
If LA county was truly serious about the virus, it would have rented the Staples Center and put a huge Covid ward there.
I can tell you from experience that I am at the hospital once or twice year from flu season and it’s always full.
Also, took care of someone for 6 years and the E room was always full in flu season
Took flu shot for 1st time last year and .....nothing
Took it again this year and hope for the same.
I have friends who have friends that supposedly have Covid and I scoff.
They then have the nerve to tell me I don’t know what it’s like to not be able to breathe or take so long to get over something like this.
Asinine...

DH works in a hospital lab. The place is empty — hardly “overwhelmed”.
I thought the flu was cured.
Thank goodness that COVID-19 has, in large measure, cured the flu. It also has drastically cut down on deaths from heart disease, cancer, sepsis, diabetes and many other deadly diseases.
I was sent home with a PO2 of 91 normal 99.
I was afraid.

COVID-19 Pt. 2: CDC’s New “PIC” and The Hidden Data:
"Most people aren’t aware that the CDC has lumped influenza together with Covid and pneumonia in death rates with a new name called “PIC.” This comes after the CDC confirmed that only 6% of Covid-related death certificates indicate Covid as the only cause, while 94% list other illnesses as the cause with an average of 2.6 comorbidities." ~~

The Johns Hopkins Newsletter: A closer look at U.S. deaths due to COVID-19:
" ... the total decrease in deaths by other causes almost exactly equals the increase in deaths by COVID-19. This suggests, according to Briand, that the COVID-19 death toll is misleading. Briand believes that deaths due to heart diseases, respiratorydiseases, influenza and pneumonia may instead be recategorized as being due to COVID-19."

“Took flu shot for 1st time last year and .....nothing”
Me too! NEVER got a flu shot and .....nothing EVERY YEAR!
Well in recent memory anyway. Haven’t been sick in YEARS!
PRAISE THE LORD!
REMEMBER! They are talking about the seasonal flu here, NOT COVID.
But it will all be blamed on COVID.
Good on you, faucetman.
I never get flu shots and never get the flu. NOT taking idiotic C-19 vaccine either. My doc says that’s fine. He knows that pharmaceuticals are all too strong for me.
They sent you home with a 91?
Unreal
