Intelligent life 'extremely rare', study claims

The question of whether we are alone in the universe remains one of the biggest philosophical conundrums of our time. While it seems almost inconceivable that our civilization is alone in the cosmos, the fact still remains that we have yet to see any evidence to the contrary.

Now a new study by researchers from Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute has cast further doubt on the likelihood that we will ever come into contact with intelligent extraterrestrials by determining that such civilizations are 'exceptionally rare' in the universe.

The basis for this, the scientists argue, is that intelligent life on Earth required multiple 'revolutionary transitions' over billions of years, and that the odds of this happening on other worlds are very slim.

They are here and have been for centuries. Anyone who believes the 40 foot tic tac that can accelerate from a hover to mach 5 instantly was built by humans is beyond obtuse.

"The basis for this, the scientists argue, is that intelligent life on Earth required multiple 'revolutionary transitions' over billions of years, and that the odds of this happening on other worlds are very slim."

And that is a slim basis for their hypothesis. Frank and Sullivan have already proved other tech societies existed, it's just a matter of whether they shook loose of their planet at any time, and if contemporary, face the same barriers-to-entry in interstellar transit and communication as we do.

How does the hunter know he’s in a forest?

Maybe he’s in Antarctica, or maybe he’s on the moon? Should he keep shooting arrows no matter what?

If a hunter keeps shooting arrows without result, is it ok to re-examine his primary assumptions?

"What ‘scientists’ can do with only one data point."

Well, it's Oxford, so they're pretty clever about jamming a room full of heads up one data point.

If some of y’all would just watch some of these brilliant videos done by scientist Isaac Arthur, you’d understand there’s been a lot of thinking going into this:

Lol. More pronouncements based on conjecture. Time to reduce grants drastically. Too much $ is wasted on worthless “research”.

If a man is alone in a forest, and his wife isn’t there to hear him, is he still wrong?

Maybe they should look at more planets than just Earth?

If the universe is infinitely large, then it’s a mathematical certainty that there exists some other planet where not only do they speak English, but bunch of Oxford professors there just realeased a paper finding that intelligent life in the universe is extremely rare.

Well I’m no Bible thumper but maybe we’re it.

Maybe the universe is there for us to wonder at and discover.

Would be quite an honor for God to have created all of this for us.

God knows we’re not worthy.

They’ll spend $millions figuring out why the Titanic sank but wouldn’t buy a Veteran a meal. Most of our scientists today are self serving.
