I accidently ran across this story and it brought tears of pride to my eyes. What a generation of men!
A story told by when the news was reported by real journalist!

Under a totalitarian state, one of disgusting things which can happen inside a reeducation camp and outside in the general society is that everybody is a potential snitch.
In contrast, Stalag 17 is one big bunch who stick together.

Tibor Rubin, a Medal of Honor winner, was sent by his Antisemitic Sergeant to die fighting the advancing Chinese. He not only lived but all by himself killed dozens of Chinese troops which helped the retreating Americans survive.
As a Concentration camp survivor he pledged he would repay the Americans for saving him by joining the Army. He repaid the debt many times over. His heroic deeds were only just beginning....
