New Japanese KitKat has been aged in whisky barrels from Islay, Scotland

Blending the best of two worlds together for an unforgettable limited-edition KitKat.

In the land of unusual KitKats, it takes something really special to catch our eye, and Nestlé Japan has done just that with their brand new release, which has been aged in whisky barrels for 180 days.

Called Whisky Barrel Aged, the new chocolate comes to us from the high-end KitKat Chocolatory boutique, with supervision by the Willy Wonka of KitKats, renowned Japanese patissier Yasumasa Takagi.

▼ Takagi has been creating the crème de la crème of KitKats for Nestlé since 2003, overseeing exclusive releases like Ruby and Volcanic Chocolate.

The products sold at KitKat Chocolatery boutiques are known for being more upmarket and luxurious than their supermarket cousins, and this new KitKat promises to deliver an exquisite balance of flavours that will send whisky lovers into a tizzy.

The KitKat has been made with cacao nibs aged for 180 days in barrels once used for ageing whisky, and manually rotated once a week to ensure all the cacao nibs inside come into contact with the barrel.

▼ Rotating the barrels helps to gradually and evenly shift the aroma and taste of whisky throughout the nibs.

Laphroiag uses barrels from Maker’s Mark, which interestingly labels its Bourbon as “whisky.

One fellow freeper “windflier” showed up with his lovely wife “libertybell” and they had home made bourbon and fireball in mason jars!

I said how did you get this color and smoke on this in the city?

She said “Jack Daniel’s wood chips” you get them at the Home depot.

RIP Ronnie

Kit Kat Japan introduces new seafood flavors

by SheKnows Editorial - April 1, 2016

Japan is known for its fish-loving population (sushi, anyone?), but are seafood-flavored Kit Kat bars taking things too far?

Nestlé Japan is releasing four new Kit Kat flavors, including clam, salmon, squid and prawn.

Now, Kit Kat Japan has a lot of interesting flavors that are truly delicious — I’ve been known to grab a pack or two (or 10) of its green tea Kit Kats whenever I hit up my local Japanese grocery store. But squid?

I can kind of understand how a seafood-flavored wafer might work, but once it’s covered in chocolate, all bets are off. And the new snacks will apparently have actual bits of fish and seafood in them for added flavor. (Shudder!)

I don’t know. Salted caramel is about as adventurous as I get when it comes to my desserts, and though I am a fan of sweet-and-savory pairings, fishy salmon and smooth milk chocolate just seems like a disastrous combo to me. ...”

Bourbon is not limited to Kentucky, you can make bourbon anywhere in the country if you want to. Had some good stuff made in Wisconsin.

No. Whiskey Barrel Aged Kit-Kats sounds like it could be good. Seafood-flavored Kit-Kats may as well be catfood-flavored Kit-Kats.
