Looking for good history books for my ten year old son

Posted on 12/03/2020 10:19:52 PM PST by MAGA2017

I'm looking for books on American history that I can give to my ten year son. He's interested in the American Revolutionary War but he's interested in other topics as well. I'm concerned about ordering something from Amazon or elsewhere that might contain nonsense about transgender Founding Fathers or Muslim pioneers who took part in the Constitutional Convention.

Any suggestions?

“I substitute taught at a Christian School - 3rd and 4th Grade English, History, Bible, etc.”

Attended a private Christian academy for grade school to high school. Now my nephew and niece attend that same school. Christian Studies is an actual subject aside from Science, Math etc.

I can still confirm they dont teach that homo fag crap. It’s a sin AND a mental illness, and not one parent ever complained until now. It’s a forward-thinking private school that for funds, they have bingo nights every 2nd Saturday night and ALL parents must volunteer/work, as agreement to have kids enroll.

I would recommend Lives of the Signers, by Benson J. Lossing - written long before the progressives perverted the history books.

It's a free PDF download from archive.org, but if you would prefer to purchase it was re-released in 1995.

This book is one that is very high on my list that I would like to see to it that it gets recorded as an audiobook.

I second A Patriot's History. Great book.

If you think he might be interested in online classes, check out Hillsdale College's classes on the Constitution, and American History. If he is too young now, they would be fine when he gets to 7th or 8th grade.

Here’s one, but it’s high school level reading.

_A Patriot’s History of the United States_

by our own Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen

My daughter bought it from an Internet site called “Thrift Books.”

There’s also a set of six small volumes called _A Basic History of the United States_ (by Clarence B. Carson). The second volume in that set is about the Revolution. The set is a little easier to read.

My daughter said that she became interested in American history, when she was nine. She had been in a private accelerated school, though, followed by homeschooling done by me (dad).

I don’t know your son’s reading level, but you probably want something written before 1950, if you want something accurate.

Try to find a copy of the book “Johnny Tremain”. The author is Esther Forbes if I’m remembering correctly. The book was granted many accolades in the publishing world, by educators, and by uncounted readers. The young man, JT is fictional, however, the history presented during the time of the beginning of the Revolutionary war is right on the nose.

JT was only around 11-13 years old when the story begins. The book is funny at times, and, sometimes shows very difficult situations for JT. Walt Disney made a film of JT. The book is much better. I was able to download the book on my Kindle, then over to the Ipad. I still make a point to re-read it on occasion... especially during times like the present. I find something new in the story every time I read it, and I’m getting way up in years,

Our 5th grade teacher in OK at the time, read a chapter per day during American History. I could barely stand waiting for the next chapter..

If he’s a good reader then Larry Schweikart has written many good ones particularly A Patriot’s History of The United States

Patriots history of the United States. This is probably more of a high school textbook type of paperback, but your 10 year old will grow into it and it will serve him well throughout his entire education.

If you really want a bonding experience, read a book like Johnny Tremain at the same time so you can discuss it together.

You'll always have that experience with him.
