Texas waitress Emily Bauer takes home $2K tip after claiming she was stiffed

A Texas waitress who claimed she was stiffed on a mystery diner’s $2,000 tip will take home the money after all — now that her employer has agreed to cut her a check.

Emily Bauer, 21, will be given the money by the owner of Red Hook Seafood and Bar in San Antonio after the joint claims the diner’s credit card transaction didn’t go through, news station KENS reported.

“It’s Christmas time, and everybody is struggling,” owner John Cheng told the outlet Wednesday. “I’m ready to give it to her as a Christmas gift.”

Cheng reportedly wrote Bauer a check for $2,069.01, which is the tip amount plus the cost of the customer’s bill.

“The fact that the owner of my job is willing to give it to me, even though it wasn’t his mess-up, I can’t thank him enough for that,” she told the news station.

I read an earlier article from a different source where she said toys, not presents.

And the credit card bank had to do it’s due diligence to make sure this was legitimate and not just a forgery.

That takes about five or ten minutes, based on personal experience.

Zero points for you.

I think Responsibility2nd’s post above explained it. I tend to overtip, especially now, and I had a card transaction held up because they thought my tip was too high.

Needless to say, it wasn’t $2000! But that amount really would have attracted the attention of the anti-fraud department (which we all need...having had my card used fraudulently once).

No, if it’s an unusual purchase for you they might decline it. At least it worked that way for me.

Your zero points are denied. Have you ever used a credit card at a restaurant and added a tip? You’ll get a charge for the amount of the purchase. But the actual charge including the tip doesn’t apply until a day or two later.

“There is NO way the bank would not process that credit card amount-—”

Do you mean the bank would unconditionally give the merchant $2000 from the credit card holder’s account. I just don’t understand that statement.

Some Freepers are just stubborn @$$#0£€$.

“I was wrong” is not in their vocabulary.

They are just as bad as the cancel culture people on the left.

More than willing to destroy a good man’s reputation and business over a stupid and incomplete news story by the same idiots who bring you Trump Russia stories.

Sad.

The CC company will accept a nominal change (tip) without running the card again.

If you want to leave a BIG tip have them rerun the transaction using the physical card.
