Wait...I thought masks and distancing worked?
Please explain how distancing is possible on an airplane without lots of government subsidies to make up for lost revenue to the airlines. Airflow matters more than distance. You may be sitting six feet away from your colleague at work, but if you're downwind of them vis a vis the air vent you are still breathing in their germs. The airlines are right to ban anyone who has tested positive because air is heavily recirculated on a plane. These people were being entitled jerks.
I am sure this type of behavior happens all the time. A person feels sick, with a bad respiratory infection and goes to the grocery anyway. They wear a crappy mask to get through the mask enforcers and cough and sneeze all over the avocados as they squeeze them for ripeness. They wipe their dripping nose with their hand as they check the broccoli for the best head. Then they walk through the store, talking on their phone, with their mask pulled up from their mouth.
If they believed they received a false positive why didn’t they just get tested again? Aren’t we supposed to have tests widely available by now?

I trust that the pilots know what they're doing. Entitled idiots like this couple not so much. Your right to stick your arm out ends where my nose begins and your right to travel freely does not include the right to (knowingly) spread a deadly disease.
I think the virus is more contagious than the flu. For this reason, it can reach more people from a single sick person. Then, the risk for death is in the numbers because of the nature of it contagiousness.
The problem is that a case of the seasonal flu, or even a cold COULD pot a vulnerable passenger at “risk of death”. There is no such thing as a risk free world in which to live.
But I am not justifying an ill person boarding a flight and sitting near others.
I have long thought that people who are sick need to be quarantined at state expense in a place where they can’t infect others. Any loss of income due to their quarantine, should also be compensated. This cost of government should be what it takes to fight the virus.
Government should also be investigating what type of activities are a vector for infection. Such activities should be shut down and those who lose income because of it, should be compensated the same way farmers are compensated when told not to grow a certain crop.

Chuck Grassley (87), My aunt (86) and former landlady (83) all got COVID. Grassley and Aunt Celia had no symptoms. Mrs. Sampson had cold symptoms, I gave her Quercetin and Zinc and she was over it in a week.
Small sample, to be sure. But I betcha the death rate for 80+'ers was MUCH higher if they were unlucky enough to be sent to a hospitals filled with incompetents, uncaring robots and imported nurses and MDs. A hospital is one of the most dangerous places in the world if you are sick. That or a nursing home in a Blue state.
Well, there was a time, earlier in the year when we really didn’t know how bad this was when I would have agreed with you.
But, now, we know that the vast majority of people will clear the infection on their own, and they can prevent passing it on by simply staying home during the course of the illness for a week or two.
The evidence for early therapeutic interventions is now so overwhelming that I’m actually amazed that the media (and big pharma) have been able to sandbag us all into “waiting for a vaccine”.
We don’t need all of that nonsense. We don’t need quarantines. We don’t need masks. We certainly don’t need to destroy our economy.
We need to allow doctors to use one of the risk-stratified early treatment combination therapies and roll that out nationwide.
That won’t happen, of course, because it’s now clear that the objective is not to eradicate the China virus, but to radically enhance the level of control the state can exert over the people.
I think it wrong and stupid to say to yourself - I am infected but I am going to board an airplane flight anyway.
That's just the problem. People are not staying home to prevent passing the infection on. Even if they do, how do they prevent passing it on by staying home? They have family members, roommates, etc and how do they prevent passing on the infection to them?
What needs to happen is they go to a real government provided place for the quarantine. They get special gowns and slippers and stay there for the entire time. They will have good meals provided. Make it aboard a nice cruise ship, complete with those lobster bars. Effective quarantines are the answer and they could be like a two week vacation until they test negative.
We are fighting a virus--right? Quarantine the sick, dammit!

How to quarantine at home?
Well, I have some direct knowledge of that. If you have a room with a connected bathroom, you just....stay in your room. Everyone else stays out. Worked for my daughter — she got it at work (hospital), stayed home and her husband didn’t get it.
Combine that with early treatment of the at-risk, and we’re done. No need for prison ships or forced vaccinations.

I'd rather be called all of the above than miss weeks of work and then have to pay a substantial hospital bill. I'm assuming the Freepers who are so anxious that I throw away my mask and "resume normal life" are not going to be picking up my hospital bill. Therefore I will thank you to let me manage my own physical and financial health as I see fit.

If you are afraid of the virus, then stay in your basement. Don’t tell other people what they may and may not do.
There are people living in crowded studio apartments with multiple people. If they get sick, testing them and quarantining those who test positive is the only answer.
