The couple, from Wailua, Kauai, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of reckless endangerment after getting on a flight traveling from San Francisco to Lihue.

Kauai police said the man and woman, both age 46, knew they had tested positive for the virus and placed other passengers on the flight in “danger of death.”

With the known unreliability and known False Positive Rate for the stupid Test, it sure sounds like False Arrest and Kidnapping.

LOL. Aren't you already in danger of death from the plane crashing? Covid has a 99.9% survival rate.

Tens of thousands of people die of the flu every year.

Will flu patients on planes be similarly charged?

A whole lot of misery could have been avoided had health officials isolated the most prominent vector right at the beginning.

“Covid has a 99.9% survival rate.”

If you’re over 70 the death rate is 1%.

If you’re over 80, it’s 8%.

Overall, it’s around .2 or .3%. Somewhere in there...the numbers are in flux as the old die off from it or some other malady.

However, if you’re 35 and healthy you may not even know if you have it. Or had it. Or, you could get the worst flu you ever had...and very, very rarely die.

If they didn’t have a fever (asymptomatic), they can’t transmit the COVID to others.
Practically-speaking, though, it’s those most at risk who should be restricted — not everyone. Since April at least we’ve known those at risk of death are very elderly, obese, blood sugar issues, or a combination. Or more exactly, they should restrict themselves and not depend on the healthy to keep them “safe.”

Uh, bad things besides dying can happen.

You can get very sick.
You also end up being isolated in your house for 10 days if infected.
People on the flight could end up quarantined for 2 weeks.
So complete, thoughtless assholes.

Ok, while I am not panicked about the China Virus, I am surprised I have to put this in here and to me it’s not debatable.

What a jerk move by these people. They deserve the punishment.

I enjoy my liberty, but it does NOT allow me to sit in a seat next to you on any flight if I know that I have a virus. While there is little risks to most people there are still risks and this virus can make even a healthy person miserably sick.

Let us not mix up individual liberty to the point we condone behavior like this. I am tired of the nanny state and the ridiculous public health decrees, but this is not justifiable.

Their lack of decency directly and indirectly impacted many dozens of people who were on that flight (especially true in Hawaii) who will now be quarantined and stalked by the state of Hawaii. God help them if someone does fall ill that is connected to this flight.

The article doesn’t state whether the airline requires masks while in flight.

If so, and they wore their masks, I think they have a valid defense, based upon government mandates that say the masks will keep the wearer and those in close proximity, safe.

Or, you could be 28 years old and have permanent loss of lung function, as an employee’s friend experienced...

Completely reckless and irresponsible for this couple to get on a plane.

“Completely reckless and irresponsible for this couple to get on a plane.”

Agreed.

And they should be prosecuted for reckless endangerment.

Oddly, there seems to be a bunch of people on this site who think this virus is harmless. And not contagious.

I’m a bit confused.
How did the airline know they had tested positive?
Did they try to hide it?
If the airline knew, why not cancel the tickets?
Arrested in HI or CA?
Will this apply to the flu as well?
How about if I bring peanuts on the plane?
Shellfish?

Please cite previous arrests of people for flying with a rhinovirus or flu.

That said, what they did is messed up.

That aligns with my experience as well. The folks I’ve know with a diagnosis confirmed by positive test:

1 23 Year old male: runny nose for one day. Resolved after 3 days. Back at work with no lingering effects.

2 30 year old females: scratchy throat for two days, nasal congestion for three days. Resolved within 5 days. Both back at work with no lingering effects.

1 55 year old male: high fever, shortness of breath, debilitating weakness, nausea. Resolved after 3 weeks, with continuing mild fatigue (has lasted for 3 months, getting better every month)

1 72 year old male with high blood pressure. Initially mild symptoms turned to severe shortness of breath, hospitalized, suffered massive stroke with multiple infarcts. Didn’t make it.

This stuff the young and healthy just shake off, often without even really thinking about it. Hard on the sick and the old though.

(Which might suggest a strategy for who should be advised to isolate, but our Governor doesn’t seem to think that way)
