Wildlife officials are warning that tegu – a South American lizard that can grow up to the size of a dog – continue to spread across the Southeast.
The Argentine black-and-white tegu is an invasive animal that has spread to Georgia and South Carolina but has also been reported in Alabama. The lizards, which can grow up to 10 pounds and 4-feet long, are “voracious invaders,” according to National Geographic and, once established in an area, it’s hard to control the spread.
Once established tegu will eat just about anything – birds, reptiles, fruits and vegetables. They also like eggs, causing concerns for the future of other species in the areas, including turtles.

This is the south. We would fry that sucker right up 😂 Or lizard on a stick
Save the Tegu!
Has a nice ring to it!
Catch them, hook them up on 20 foot chains all along the border fence. Find a tunnel? Fill it up with them.
Stop your BS

Lizard bites Sharon Stone’s husband
San Francisco Chronicle editor Phil Bronstein - the husband of actress Sharon Stone - has had foot surgery following an attack by a Komodo dragon at a US zoo. Bronstein was bitten on the foot in the Indonesian lizard’s cage during the couple’s private tour of Los Angeles zoo
He survived.
Depends on who came first, the python who can swallow the lizard or the lizard who found eggs first.
I had a video of a python who swallowed a gator, but then the gator chewed throw the innards of python and won the survival fight.
I wish I was in Tijuana eating barbecued iguana
(Great song now in your heads. You’re welcome.)
Shoot it Lisbeth!
Grunt... you may be on to something there... use one varmint to exterminate the other varmint.
One wonders if that could be a real pest control solution...
Wait, wait, wait.... I was just getting my head wrapped around the murder hornet invasion, and already I’ve got to deal with this Tegu thing, whatever it is, but now you’re telling me we’ve got Komodo Dragons running around the U.S.? I think I’m moving to Alaska. At least all they have is polar bears.
Sounds like a cheap spaghetti sauce... “I couldn’t afford the Ragu, so I bought the Tegu instead....”
i dig Celtic Frost’s cover of it.
Feral cats would be great at catching these lizards , esp. before they get to 5 lbs...
Wild boars are on the move, and in Illinois now.
My wife was visiting friends in Texas, a bit of commotion and weapon cases out...Farm country.
The home owner spotted some wild hogs on a security camera.
The often get some but cannot get rid of them.
“The entire southeast portion of the United States is at risk. Much of this area has a climate that is suitable for tegus,” Amy Yackel Adams, a biologists with the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Once established tegu will eat just about anything – birds, reptiles, fruits and vegetables. They also like eggs, causing concerns for the future of other species in the areas, including turtles.

Probably illegal exotic pet underground market.
I know there will plenty of jokes in this thread, but this is a serious threat to local environment.
Hopefully they can trap as many as possible.
Lizard versus cat... I dunno... I think a fair sized lizard would put up a hell of a fight against a cat...
“...a serious threat to local environment....”
Understood. Like that damned asian lantern fly that suddenly appeared and destroyed crops and other plants.
You can eat them. End of story.
Import some Gila Monsters
No need to import, California and Arizona already have them.
They have everything in California!
