Wildlife officials are warning that tegu – a South American lizard that can grow up to the size of a dog – continue to spread across the Southeast.
The Argentine black-and-white tegu is an invasive animal that has spread to Georgia and South Carolina but has also been reported in Alabama. The lizards, which can grow up to 10 pounds and 4-feet long, are “voracious invaders,” according to National Geographic and, once established in an area, it’s hard to control the spread.
Once established tegu will eat just about anything – birds, reptiles, fruits and vegetables. They also like eggs, causing concerns for the future of other species in the areas, including turtles.

What do they taste like?
Years ago when I was in Vietnam, one of the guys shot a 15 foot long python that had crawled into the guard shack. They had a barbeque with it and it was delicious.
“Lizard versus cat... I dunno... I think a fair sized lizard would put up a hell of a fight against a cat...”
Considering these things can get to 45-50 pounds and 4 feet long, a cat, usually 11 to 15 pounds, might have a problem with it.
Grill jalapeños next to the steaks.
What if their only natural enemy is the Asian Murder Hornet?
The only printable word I can think of is “Gross!”
The meat along the backbone is white, tender, juicy and delicious when the entire critter is roasted.
They originate from Indonesia. Their close cousin The Monitor Lizard has been recently found in America (guess where), mostly Florida. Abandoned pets most likely.
According to the U.S. Army Survival Manual, all reptiles are edible, and small lizards can be eaten hole. That being said Handle them like raw chicken and cook them thoroughly, as well as thoroughly cleaning your hands.
HAHAHA!!! I thought it was ‘choot it!’ HAHA! That show was great.

Which one is the invasive species? Probably should shoot both to be on the safe side..
On the serious side I will kill one if I saw it. For some reasons the song birds that have been missing returned this year. I enjoy the spring concerts in the morning with my coffee. Not worried about my dogs they weight 80 pounds each. But would hate to see the birds leave because their nests are raided.
We have feral cats in the neighborhood. We trap them and a vet fixes them for $25. He trains vet students. Anyway we let the cats wander the neighborhood. I have a couple that live at my house, probably because I feed them. Anyway, we like the cats because we do not see as many Moccasins and Crane Breaks which are common even in town. Cats take care of them and any rodents. Kind of a symbiotic relationship. A 45 pound lizard may be a bit of a problem, but we have a few big Toms that may be able to handle a good size lizard.
Red wine or white?
Does it taste like chicken?🐔
