November 20, 1945? What do I remember doing?

Even though I'd been driving for two years on back country roads, I was getting ready to take (the next week when I turned 12) the test for my drivers license...

We, as a family, were still waiting for Dad to get home from the Pacific... When Okinawa had been secured and the japs surrendered, his Marine Corps division had been shipped to China where another shooting war was underway...
We had not seen him since he enlisted/was drafted in Feb 1942... He did get back in time for Christmas...

In 1963 I was in the 5th grade and I remember the principle coming into our room to announce that the president had been shot.

I was watching TV when Oswald was shot. I watched as Mrs. Kennedy got on the plane with her blood-stained clothes and I watched the parade and the funeral.

I remember going to K Mart during that week and looking at all the people. They were as sad as I was.

Approximately 75 years ago, I was marching in the streets of my hometown with my parents, banging on pots and pans, celebrating the end of WWII.

I often wonder what those of the greatest generation who gave up their lives fighting for freedom would think if they could see where this country looks like it is heading today.

I was alive for Pearl Harbor but too young to remember. I sure as hell remember 9/11 but the Kennedy assassination was an off the charts stunner that I think profoundly and uniquely emotionally impacted everyone.
