Been amusing myself by growing batches of Sprouts. Nice mix of spicy seeds from 'Botanical Interests.' Great on sandwiches and salads. I use a tall Mason Jar, cheesecloth on top (no lid) and the jar ring to hold it in place. They don't need light to sprout. Rinse every day and drain out the extra water. If you like them to 'green up' once they've sprouted, move them in a sunny spot for a few days, still rinsing every day. 1 Tbsp. of seed fills this jar to the brim. Takes 5-7 days to grow a batch. Rinse well in a colander to flush out seed hulls, drain and keep in a covered container in the fridge with a folded paper towel in the bottom. Eat within the week, but start a new batch right away if you want to keep a constant supply on hand.

I do alfalfa sprouts regularly in the winter. I use a very large olive jar. It is at least 2 quarts. In 1999 we had a big cookout here and got a huge jar of olives. The opening is super wide. I got one of those temporary stainless steel circular drain screens you see at the dollar stores. Screen just lays on top and so easy to rinse the sprouts daily.

A white Christmas table......accented w/ your mercuried pieces, silver baubles,
crystal stemware, and white tapers. White dinnerware can be bought inexpensively.

All in all...... a nice respite from the triteness of red and green.
