Notice that Miss Cupp's five minute rant omits issuing any hard numbers, only "rankings" adjusted for population.

Here are some recent hard numbers from a South Dakota MSM source: (KOTA TV ABC Rapid City, SD)

South Dakota [ . . . ] state health officials reporting 53 more deaths Saturday.

The state’s death toll is now at 621 [out of 850,000 population, or about 73 per 100,000]. The state’s previous single-day record for COVID-19 deaths was 28 on Nov. 6.

Currently 549 South Dakotans are hospitalized due to COVID-19. 3,598 state residents have had been be hospitalized at some point because of the coronavirus.

So far, nearly 45,000 people in the state are considered recovered from the virus.

According to the South Dakota Department of Health, COVID-19 patients occupy 20.2% of the state’s staff hospital beds, and 30.5% of the state’s staffed ICU beds.

Currently, 33.9% of the state’s hospital beds are available, and 33.1% of the state’s ICU beds remain unoccupied.

There is NO shortage of beds, and the hospitals are NOT being overwhelmed. Cupp was ignorant or lying.

Now, to put that death rate of 73/100,000 in context (we can round up to 100 per 100,000 to allow for the rest of the year, keep in mind that according to the Dept. of Health ( https://doh.sd.gov/statistics/2016Vital/Mortality.pdf page 53), a typical year will see twice that number each for heart disease and cancer. Many of those whose death is attributed to the CCP Virus are taken out of the pool of people who would be dying of cancer and and heart disease. Sad, but not exactly ebola or even Spanish Flu.

Finally, since Noem had NEVER shut down the state, why is there an uptick NOW? Probably for the same reason that other states are getting upticks, seasonal changes, etc. The rates have gone up on the masked and the unmasked alike. What South Dakota got, that California and New York did NOT get, was a reprieve from extra suicides, entire industries shuttered, hard drug abuse skyrocketing, an entire generation of children being made far more fearful of their neighbors than the '50s kids ever were of the bomb.

There was a bait and switch. First it was "flatten the curve", now it is "defeat the virus". Well, eventually a vaccine or vaccines will be available for those who want to take that route, but for the most part the virus is gonna be what it is gonna be, sooner or later. The fear-mongering S.E. Cupps of the world are responsible for more deaths and ruined lives and local societies than the lack of lock-downs or masks.
