ALBANY – As the police department released video of the officer's racist remarks, the police chief took steps Friday to fire the patrolman who was caught on tape calling Black people “the worst f__ing race.”
Haupt replies, “My buddies listen to the scanner and they send me texts all the time, and they go, ‘Is the suspect ever a white male?’ and I go ‘No.’ I know it sounds terrible to say, but I don’t give a f__ what anybody says, I sincerely don’t. Because bro, they are the worst f__ing race and I don’t — you can’t deny, like, over the last X amount of months, they are — you know because we work together — they are getting worse and worse, and people are defending that. Are you f__ing kidding me?”

there is no free speech on the boss’s dime.
1) First of all, government employees are only protected by the First Amendment when they are speaking as private citizens. If their speech is part of their official job duties, then they can be fired or disciplined for it.
It could be argued that he was expressing his personal opinion while filling up gas.
I agree that it boils down to professionalism. It is silly that anyone thinks they can talk like that in this era of recording everything. However, I don’t see much of a difference between this man’s comment and calling all white people racists.
To be honest, I’m wondering how many black cops feel the same way...?
It could be argued unsuccessfully that he was expressing his personal opinion while filling up gas.
Well, we'll know in a year or so.
Lots of issues mentioned in comments above, most of which are relevant and need answering.
Did the officer say something “racist”? I would say yes and he was on duty (or so it seems from the story line).
Is black crime a serious problem in Albany. Seems like the stats mentioned above say it is.
Who are the victims of black crime and what types of crime - murder, rape, drug trafficking, human trafficking, assaults, carjackings, armed robberies, stealing, etc.
Are white police officers attacked more than black police officers when they respond to calls or come upon a crime/incident? If so, then the officer’s comments would be correct but not proper.
How do the victims of crime, black, white, etc. view this CRIME and the police responses?
Do blacks view fellow black criminals as heroes or criminals, esp. the victims of those crimes.
In DC today, a little black child was shot and killed in a car her? father was driving. Can’t blame it on white cops, black cops, Asian cops, or the KKK. It was reportedly a drive-by shooting, which is one of the favorite ways of killing blacks by other blacks in DC, including innocent people in their homes or on their porches.
Haven’t been in Albany in many, many decades and have no plans to ever go there again. Wonder why?
PS: My son was a federal police officer who had to deal with mentally ill assailants, and did professionally, but as a civilian he has been attacked twice by Hispanics, once by a drunk who attacked his car with him in it, and more recently by some punk in a 7-11. It did not end well for the assailant.
All males in my family are concealed carry licensees to protect themselves and our grandchildren. I’m joining that group soon. We were attacked by a Hispanic punk and possible gangbanger on the road and as far as we know, he was never arrested despite us having photos of it. Our DA is a Soros paid whore. Need I say anything more.
The carpet gets rolled up in Albamy every night at 5:15 pm when the state workers and others get in their cars and leave to go home, typically in the surrounding suburbs.
Albany is dangerous at night if you stray one or two blocks, who in their right mind would open a business there or want to live or work there....not many. The Dems have destroyed the inner cities with their PC lack of law enforcement and their leaders hostility to business.
It was all predicable and predicted.
