Hello Fellow FReepers, I have been posting several articles via their HTML source. I notice that apostrophes are not being rendered correctly after the article is posted. I see two square marks in the place of the apostrophes.
Does anybody notice the same weird thing?
> It’s not a feature, it’s a shi*tty bug. Find me one other site, that’s text-based no less, that can’t properly render UTF8 text.
So stop posting here and post on one of those other sites that handle UTF8 to your liking. Nobody's holding a gun to your head to post here.
Or you can stop using "Smart Quotes" and other high-falutin' non-ASCII characters.
Freedom of Choice, ain't it wonderful?
RE: Right-click, Paste as Plain Text
Sure, I can do that, but that would eliminate the hyperlinks and the bolded emphasis that are very useful to readers who want to do further research or read original sources being referenced.
Well I know about apostrophes, but HTML that’s another story.
Yes, punctuation is high-falutin’, right? Don’t need to never be postin’ none of them furrin’ words, neither.
Whatever you say.

LOL.
BTW, I have had to fix the UTF8 handling on my own sites that I administer, to handle Smart Quotes and foreign language characters. I know personally how much of a pain it can be in a site like this. So don't bother trying to lecture me, I've been there and done that.
And BTW, how much did you donate to FreeRepublic, to assist John Robinson in ferreting out and fixing the UTF8 handling you crave?
Or are you freeloading and expecting something for nothing?
I’m dead...Can’t see, or hear anything.
Hughly series.
All your apostrophes are belong to us!
I’m stuned.
The Apostrophe... Is that your conceptual continuity?

I see that when I post from my phone, but I’ve (see what I did there?) not seen it using my computer.
Fifteen minutes ago I sent this to John:
My admiration for your herculean efforts, both over the weekend and overall, has no bounds. Still, I hope that you are aware of the ongoing issues in what I think is called CharacterSet, as abundantly evidenced on my thread this morning.

How well do you know HTML?
Thanks.
You could also copy into the Free Republic Your Reply: text box by using Paste as plain text.
I don't post funky code...
But that's still great advice!
They’re all the same dude with different clothes and hair dye!
Good enough to create web pages with it.

Then you know what the effect will be when you copy text from a page with one charset and pasting to another with a different charset.
The curly 'apostrophes' aren't technically apostrophes but are right single quotation marks. (’)
Nope, I’ve donated cash and offered to donate development time. Cash was accepted, obviously, but time was not.
Why don’t you offer to volunteer your time to JR to fix this? Maybe you’ll have better luck than I did last time.
Funky

Okay, snarky comment withdrawn. I do a monthly PayPal auto-donation, so I don't have to remember. :-)

Actually I've done that. Haven't heard back (yet).
