The Who at their best. I know I will get some gruff for this, but Keith Moon was the best drummer of that era.

That album is the proto-punk album for me. The extended version is great stuff, too.

I agree about Moonie, but as Pete said, not the easiest drummer to play live with.

Keith Moon and John Bonham. Parallel icons with tragic demise.

Even though it was a “Magics” bus, it was not an autonomous vehicle!

Yup, The Who were one heck of a talented group. There’s an argument that each member was a superstar. Keith Moon on drums had no equal. Neither did Pete Townsend on lead guitar or John Entwistle on bass. All lead players which might be why they had a hard time getting along.
I was getting The Who albums in 1966 when at least people in Washington state had no clue who they were. They kept saying, “Who are you?”

What happened at 1:18:
Back in the studio, they set about editing the material for an album to be made available as quickly as possible. We tried to overdub some lost vocals, but it didnt work, said John Entwistle later. The only thing we added was a bit of tape delay. It sounded too clean for a live recording. Once we added the delay and cut the audience out it sounded fine. There was a bit in Magic Bus where we couldnt get it to flow properly. So Pete just edited the tape, cut a bit out and turned it backwards.

The best live concert I ever attended was The Who - early 70's, Seattle Coliseum right down in front. No big intro, they just walked out, picked up their gear and kicked ass.
Moon was a fine drummer, but not in the league of Ginger Baker IMHO.

The entire unedited, soundboard recording of Magic Bus from Leeds can be found
here,. This shows how the song was played, without cutaways, including the unreleased parts, and 'fixes.'
Indeed, the best uncovered edit, IMHO, is at the very end of the song, where Moon, John, and Pete can't quite all land at the same time....it's a wonderful mistake, and epitomizes Daltrey's "gimme a bum note and a bead of sweat" approach to live shows.
btw, this was their stage setup that night...no lasers, no smoke bombs...

As it should be. Like I tell my buddies at jam sessions, it all ended on the same stage. 😂🎸🙌
