I have a Sharp TV. A big aqueous. It has some apps but was showing its age so I got a nice Roku. The Roku has a browser and that is where I want to go to get ustvgo.tv and pluto.tv.

The Roku tells me that I need that I need to be connected to a media browser server on the network so that the roku media browser can operate.

What is that and where do I get one so I can operate the TV and use this media browser? Last week Roku was calling it just a plain browser.

Help please?

What and how?

Per the link I posted - it looks like the TV pulls it off of your laptop or PC once you follow the instructions.

So if I understand this correctly I need to get a computer that will act as a server for the TV. Via wifi. Then I download their browser into it and that hooks it all up?

I am curious, why are you trying to use your TV as a computer? It is rather ill suited. A web page is not a picture, it is a very complex series of commands on how to draw the page. That is why one web page fits all computers.

A TV does not have a processor to interpret a stream of commands.

If it is a visual thing you are trying to accomplish your best angle of attack is to mirror your computer on your TV. Then use a plug in keyboard as your entry device.

That adds the missing processor and graphics capability.

Is your question better stated how do I mirror my laptop screen to my TV using roku?

I am not the OP but you have stated the question I have.

I access the internet via Verizon FIOS. I have no Cable TV subscription, just an internet subscription. I access the internet though a laptop computer. I now own a Roku Smart TV, which includes Apps (such as Hulu) that are useful. But I cannot mirror my laptop screen to my TV using roku. Ideally, I would like to do this thru WiFi.

Sorry, do not use roku. I have a Sony brava TV and can’t seem to mirror to it with anything.

Weird, cut and paste this url into your browser: https://www.rokuguide.com/channels/media-browser

I am using my Roku TV as a monitor for my laptop with an HDMI cable going from the display to the laptop and it works fine.

I have an older desk top and no HDMI port. I discovered TUBI on the ROKU, lots of good free movies with limited coercials, think I will cancel my prime and netflix Oh and newsmax on ROKU channel.

Roku is not capable of browsing the internet outside built in apps such as Youtube since it doesn’t have a web browser app. Trying to search the web without a keyboard and mouse is a pain and TVs don’t lend themselves well to show web content due to the large font sizes at low resolution. Use an iPad if you want to browse the web and stream content to the TV; most new smart TVs are capable of doing that, however your Sharp may be a little outdated for that.

I’ve got Roku and I played with the media browser (another poster gave you the link to the site). Basically, you install the server portion — Emby — on your PC, then the Roku channel for the browser will allow you to access media files that are on your PC inside of Roku instead of just having them available on your PC. Honestly, it was all one giant pain in the butt and the number of file formats it supported was limited. I ended up just using Kodi and attaching my PC to the TV.
