It's fine until I tune into Free Republic

UHF or VHF? If you've lost the plastic knob, sometimes you have to use pliers.

Check for Malware and Viruses. No problems with it here at all. What OS and version is your operating system and what is your browser and its version?

I will make a post and see how it turns out.

I regularly went to a CDC.gov site that gave statistics on
“excess deaths.” Since Americans are always dying, I thought it interesting to see how many more were dying than usual. It’s been a while since I used that link.

This morning the link does not work. First my updated OS tells me the link is not secure. Then it does not work. I went directly to the CDC website, CDC.gov. I’ve rummaged around and have not yet found anything on excess deaths. Maybe they are conducting routine maintenance. Or maybe they are moving out and pleasing the new administration. Time may tell.

Are you sure it’s not you going upside down, or sideways, or twirling around willy nilly while the computer stays still?

First, change your browser. You have lots of choices. Stay away from Google and Bing. I know that Comcast is programmed in China. If you are using Comcast, they have your data. And your cable box is Chinese controlled. Consider using your own equipment. A router and modem is not expensive and its better than theirs. Try private windows. That is harder for them if they are watching your login. And then you could try a VPN. VPNs are good anyway.

This will never get you totally out of the woods. They can always see the address in the stream of your data going in and out. But it makes it much harder. And the effort may be too much for them. If you were Tucker they would make that effort. But you are a low importance target. So its more likely that all you need to do is make it hard.

One thing that is really important. Don’t sync your phone to your computer. Don’t use google very much. Don’t use Facebook or Twitter or Instagram if you can help it. Certainly you never want to login to these things. Don’t install Zoom, ever. And Wechat and TikTok are right out. These are among the worst. There are far more.

Mine will never show secure on the web bar. No matter what security is on or off. That started in 2020. And, yes. Everything is up to date.

I thought you were kidding.

Take off the computer case, find the disk drive, unplug it, unscrew it, remove it. Then take it outside and use the most destructive weapon you have, like a shotgun, AND SHOOT IT IN THE HEAD.

If this is not a joke, you have some sort of malware and your current antivirus can’t see the issue or it’s a strange Windows configuration:

1. Strange Windows option fix:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance-winpc/screen-is-always-rotating/63c745f2-501e-4094-bf2b-f7822eadf236

It wouldn’t surprise me if there were other official Microsoft options people now have to checked such as:

“Prevent screen from jerking around”
“Prevent screen from flipping upside down”

It’s not unlike Facebook when it brings in new privacy settings which effectively removed the prior settings, leaving you to hunt and reset them.

2. If malware, download a free self-booting antivirus program and boot with that (and not your Windows). It can then scan your drives without the virus affecting it.

Avira and other antiviruses have generally free downloads that do this service. They have their own operating system (usually Linux).

Hope this helps.

The only time my computer went “upside down” was when I was in Communist China. I’m not particularly tech-savvy, and this freaked me out. Luckily a young designer on the trip had the patience to set it right.

But it happened more than once in China.

BTW, our university tech department did not let me take a normal computer to China in 2017 and 2019. The “student loaner” computer was completely stripped of all programs except those I’d need on the trip, like PowerPoint. The word was that the Chinese copied one’s whole drive when they had access.
