Well, THAT was a cheerful addition to our thread.
But, I feel your pain. ;)
LOL at your mower issues! My old ‘Craftsman’ mower allowed the mowing deck to be raised and lowered that way with the ‘pin.’
You’re so RIGHT! My ‘new’ (four seasons in) Zero-Turn? I physically CANNOT change the mower deck because I’m not strong enough to push that pedal to move it!
They need to take a survey or something because I’d guaran-damn-tee that the MAJORITY of owners of Zero-Turns are women; especially the sizes you and I are using to mow!
That happens a lot, both with tech support and with repair people. The problem magically goes away, right when you need them to see it happen.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It also happens with vets ... large animal in particular. One of horse would have a “hitch in their get-a-along” .... until the vet truck pulled up. Then any issues magically disappeared!
The mower pedal issue is getting harder for me because I’ve lost 1/3 of my body weight over the last 2.5 years. When I was little & tried to do something that was “bigger” than I was, my dad used to tell me that I “needed more bricks in my pants”. Well, I need more bricks!! Pushing the darn pedal on Clyde takes everything I’ve got - I pretty much brace myself in the seat & use my whole body to push it. I think JD taking into account all the women who mow would be a “good move” on their part.
As I was cleaning the mower last evening before putting it away, I noticed the belt has a couple of good “dings” in it. The belt is the original so this is the 2nd season for it. I’m hoping I can get through the last mowings without it breaking. On the tractor style mower, the belt would jump off & I got so I could put it back on myself. Looking at the diagram & then where the belt all goes on Clyde (way back underneath), even if I had a new belt, I couldn’t fix it. My brother & I are considering getting a lift (sharing the cost) which would make changing out blades a whole lot easier .... if I could get the mower high enough, then maybe I could put on a new belt. Always SOMETHING going on! I try to appreciate the times I mow & everything goes well, because those times when it doesn’t, it’s a royal pain in the patootie.
The 4 new raised bed project is progressing nicely. Lots to do before Wednesday when it’s looking like rain/showers for the next 6 days. I’ll be climbing the walls if I can’t get outside for 6 days. The pole barn where I park Clyde needs a lot of cleaning up - that might be something I can do. The only issue is cleaning it up requires hauling away stuff & dad is a major ‘pack rat’. When you grow up during the Depression, you hang on to everything ... you might need it several decades (in his case, a half century!) down the road.
Wisconsin is warmer than California these days! ;)
Blueberries really are a pretty shrub. Useful and Beautiful. :)
What’s going in the new temporary ‘greenhouse?’
The tent greenhouses are cheap and easy to put up plus I’m 87 and Lady Bender is 80 and we don’t want to spend big bucks for a real greenhouse at this stage. The one by the garage is currently being used for storage and the one in the garden is still growing tomatoes
I tilled a spot for the garlic, added three loader buckets of compost, and then tilled it again. Set 171 cloves on Saturday.
The garlic patch always turns into a weed patch, so this time I spaced the rows far enough apart to run the little Craftsman tiller between them.
I took down four of the big tomato cages, and tilled/composted the spot where the garlic was planted last years. I still have quite a bit of cleanup to do, but it was too windy to burn so I moved on to other projects.
I had 25 ton of 3x6 crushed limestone delivered Friday afternoon. I got most of it placed on the pond dam before dark. Finished it up Saturday morning, and spent several hours picking up strays and rearranging.
I think I'm going to want more out there, but I'll let this settle over winter and see what it looks like come spring.
Several trees have died in the fenceline where I park the farm implements. I moved all of that stuff out into the hay field yesterday, and got a good start on dozing out the old fence.
My buddy is supposed to retrieve his truck topper this week. Soon as that thing is out of the way I can finish the dozing, and start turning those dead trees into firewood.
Our first Garden Seed catalog arrived last Monday.
Mailed from Randolph, WI...
Yep. We’re always first out of the gate! I got my HPS catalog last week - is that the one you got? It has seeds, but mainly things for commercial growers.
“Management’ was very surprised when I asked to keep seeds in the store through Fall. I promoted them as Stocking Stuffers and sold a TON.
I also decorated our store Christmas Tree with be-ribboned empty seed packets and big red berries. I’ll see if I can find a picture of it. ;)
*APPLAUSE* Excellent work, as always.
I’m going to put up Christmas Lights on my porch, today! My BFF already has her whole house decorated outside and she’s been turning on her lights already, LOL!
The weather here has been amazing, too! Best news? I’ve finally gotten Cherry Tomatoes on my (unheated) greenhouse plants! There may be some hope of ‘Thanksgiving Tomatoes’ this year! :)
Two months ago I wouldn’t have been able to get half that much done in a weekend. My urologist put me on a medication that increases testosterone levels, and it has worked wonders for my energy level.
Now my problem is I have the energy to do stuff, but I’m flabby and weak because I wasn’t doing stuff. I wind up doing more than I should have and it takes three days to get over the aches and pains. lol
By the time spring gets here I hope to be back in shape to where I can do a day’s work without feeling so busted afterwards.
Getting old isn’t for sissies.
You can't win, LOL!
All of my fishing buddies are sworn to push me out of the boat if I ever get that bad off. lol
