It's curious noticing what a great fuss was made over the British Prince of Wales -- and still within living memory of the time when Brits were our mortal enemies.
Possibly... will all this fawning attention pay off for us should the time come when we will need the Brits as allies -- or at least as neutral non-belligerents -- in some very desperate war?
George Templeton Strong commented on that curious fact in his diary entry for October 22:
"Under all this folly and tuft-hunting there is a deep and almost universal feeling of respect and regard for Great Britain and for Her Britannic Majesty. The old anti-British patriotism of twenty years ago is nearly extinct. . . ."
