Um, this guy is giving himself way too much credit. Trump talked about running for President in the 1980s.

Chris Wallace spoke to Trump at a Republican convention in 1988 and Trump said he would have a good chance of winning if he ran.

That in no small measure would be why the joke even happened.

It may not have been THE reason, but I’ll bet it was one of the things that pushed him over the line to decide. If it were me, and I was publicly humiliated on national TV, I’d want to do something to get back at whoever did it.

I hope Mr. Rineman stews on this for a very, very long time.

Their “joke” was that he was all talk and no action.

8 years of suck from McCain and Romney and almost 4 years from JEB! made a difference.

This “comedian”? Not a bit.

Where IS the joke?

Since the 80s I’ve heard “He’s a Republican!” as the punchlines to leftists’ attempts at humor (and not in reference to Donald Trump).

I remember that. There were some Democrats talking about drafting Donald Trump for the 1988 nomination. Back then, Trump was pro-abortion but was sound fiscally.

Today, Trump's governing philosophy is similar to what moderate-conservative Democrats from the 1960's and 1970's. I wish he'd do more to end the deficit and work to bring down the national debt. However, considering the alternative....I prefer someone agree with 95% of the time, to someone whose followers want me in a re-education camp, or in a lime-filled ditch with a bullet in my head.

Really! Talk about Narcissism! The MSM really think THEY are the king makers. They made Trump so now they can take him out by hook or npby crook.
Surprise! We made Trump President.

That’s just it - he has had many opportunities to run for public office before and he turned them down.

I don’t think Trump would admit to the joke being the reason he ran.

Rineman will die wondering.
