Health and environmental experts are coming for your gas stove
NY Post ^ | October 29, 2020 | Hannah Sparks

Health experts are advising to use electric stoves over glass flames.

Electric coil and induction stoves run on electricity, with the potential for “green” energy sources such as solar and wind power. Gas stoves, though decidedly easier to control for cooking, require the use of fossil fuels, namely natural gas. Their carbon dioxide emissions, while lower than that of other oil or coal, are one of the many factors contributing to climate change.

“Thousands of people are killed every year because of gas and propane explosions!”

Can you provide a supporting link for that claim, please?

Propane will include portable cooking, heating and camping devices, I would think. (Since half of Americans are of below average IQ, I would expect issues with these, just as with chain saws, propane hot oil turkey cookers and trampolines).

Fedzilla says he’s full of it. 12 to 15 dead annually from pipeline, and fewer than that in house explosions.

Cal, what the heck are you smoking?!

Oh, the ecownakers seem to NOT mention this earth friendly, dependable, cost effective stumble when china joe brings up green jobs. I sure wish PDJT would have hammered them with this:

“A $1 Billion Solar Plant Was Obsolete Before It Ever Went Online

SolarReserve’s Crescent Dunes received backing from Citigroup and the Obama Energy Department but couldn’t keep pace with technological advances.”

From bloomberg:

I believe natural gas and propane should be confined to large power plants only.

And this, folks, is why we can never get along.

Anecdotal evidence, somebody died somewhere, means everyone should give up an energy source that provides the means to a better quality of life for the vast majority of the people who use it. What works as an energy source in southern California with abundant wind and sunshine, should not be forced on the entire country.

Beliefs don't matter, facts matter.

Question: How many solar panels does it take to power a glass top electric range?

Those little counter top retail induction cooker are junk. They at most put out 1800 watts which is fine for buffet service to keep things warm or skillet an omelet. Professionally grade induction has 10,000 watt or for the big 12” power burners 20,000 watts the two are not comparable. Retail burners cycle full power one then off to control heat by variable on time vs off to get to lower power because the electronics are cheap to do bang bang control. Professional induction uses triacs to lower the amplitude of the induction wave giving seamless power control down to 200 watts or less then they go to bang bang mode. Again the two are not comparable. There’s a reason a commercial grade bluestar cooktop is 10 grand and those counter top ones are $100 or less. Like I said I was a professional chef for nearly a decade through university and most high end restaurants have moved to induction in places where natural gas is expensive or they lack the ventilation to vent the fumes or they need very fast heat up and delicate melt / simmer capabilities. Such as French cuisine. I used to be a true blue gas cooker kinda guy until working in a French restaurant that used all induction and high end French carbon steel cookware. Dr Buyer and Matfer which I promptly used our wholesale discounts and got pots and pans for my home use. Commercial induction is simply superior and many a professional chef will profess to that fact. This one included.

I have a 15 kilowatt system on my 3500 sqft rooftop that easily powers my Bluestar commercial induction 36” flattop. My net electricity cost is 3 cents per kilowatt hour 24/7/365 as I have a contract with a solar power provider for 20 years at that rate in exchange for leasing my real estate from me the owner. It’s called a power concession. 3 cents per kilowatt hour is one third the retail rate here in rural North Texas. My next vehicle will be a tesla model S or 3 not sure if I need the larger car either will give me the equivalent cost per gallon of gasoline of under $1.50 a gallon.

Tests has $127 kWh battery packs over 200,000 miles owner ship is 3c per mile plus 250 watthour a mile in round trip energy use at 3 cents a kWh is 0.75 CENTS a mile in energy costs for a total of 3.75 cents per mile. My current S60 Volvo gets 30 mpg on $1.80 a gallon fuel which is on My 1.80 due to demand drop due to covid. It will go back to $2.50 or more as soon as the economy recovers. Anyways 1.80/30= 6 cents per mile or twice as much. I paid more retail for the S60 than a Model 3 new would cost both carry nearly identical payloads and number of passengers in comparable luxury. The EV has a 8 year unlimited mileage warranty and Tesla has confirmed the new model 3 will have million mile capable battery packs. The current generation have 300000 to 500000 mile packs and quite a few commercial Teslas have already exceeded 300k on those gen 2 and 3 packs. With my solar panels and a Tesla I can say good bye to ever having to get gas again. The new model 3 have 250kw super charge packs that’s 80 percent charge in 20 minutes for long trips. 300 miles is farther than my bladder makes it or 5 hours at 60mph avg so a 20 minutes stop every 5 hours is not an inconvenience. New Orleans is as far as I normal drive that’s nearly 9 hours one way I could leave my home full charged stop for lunch and a piss like I normally do in Louisiana for half an hour to eat and stretch then make New Orleans on the recharge it’s 590 miles well in range of a M3s 330 miles times two. I am a petroleum geologist , ops geo as well and consult in the power industry as an environment consultant I have no problem switching to electric now that it’s superior technology I’m not a luddite.

one of the many factors contributing to climate change.

I used to have to fly to Malaysia on business. On the plane I would watch the airport disappear and within 10 minutes we were over the water. For 20 hours all I would see is air and water, air and water, air and water.

These people's common sense of proportion is way out of whack.

We have a gas generator now. Our home isn’t set up for natural gas which stinks. I admit last year I was not prepared for the three day outage. We ended up with the gas heaters but with the gas stove still able to cook.

I’m not pro electric everything. Most of the elderly and others had to stay in special housing. Plus it makes no sense when the grid shuts down. How are these companies selling “alternative” power when its tied in to the electrical grid?

Yes, gas for me. I’ll never get a pure electric home without natural gas, wood stove and a generator. Last year taught me a harsh lesson

Thousands? Doubt it.On the other hand electric stoves are wayyyy more dangerous than gas ones.
“ Although 60 percent
of households cook with electricity,15 four out of five (80 percent)
ranges or cooktops involved in reported cooking fires were powered by
electricity. Population-based risks are shown below,
• The rate of reported fires per million households was 2.6 times
higher with electric ranges.
• The civilian fire death rate per million households was 3.4 times
higher with electric ranges.
• The civilian fire injury rate per million households was 4.8 times
higher with electric ranges than in households using gas ranges.
• The average fire dollar loss per household was 3.8 times higher in
households with electric ranges.”

These fools want ALL ELECTRIC EVERYTHING.

California cannot supply all of it’s electric needs NOW...When other states quit selling to Calif because they need it for their own residents-—THEN WHAT.???

Heat
Hot Water
Cooking
Transportation
Manufacturing

I will bet you an ice cream bar that more people are killed in the USA each year in auto accidents than in gas/propane explosions.

Are you advocating we end all autos/trucks???

You are comparing a Ferrari to a Chevy.

Most American households can afford a Chevy-—None are shopping for a Ferrari.

Thousands of people are killed every year because of gas and propane explosions!

The IQ of this thread dropped 50 points with this unfounded statement and the rest of your post.
