The Twenty Second Amendment was ruled unconstitutional because it singles out only the office of the president for term limit restrictions. This made it a bill of attainder. The ruling said it must either be repealed or expanded to apply to all federal elected offices.
In a panic that after only two terms they would be forced to find honest jobs Congress passed the Twenty-Eighth Amendment repealing the Twenty-Second Amendment in it's entirety.
The wisdom of the founders? As you should well know the founders had no clue what they were doing when it came to addressing what is a natural born citizen. Even after two amendments clarifying the term, it’s still remains ambiguous, uncertain and open to interpretation. Hundreds of challenges and court cases over the last 250 years still leaves the concept of NBC open to any interpretation.
In other words the founders were fools regarding NBC.
