The Name of The Rose. Very good film
I, like you, thought Zardoz was a true stinker of a movie. The first time I saw it I had absolutely no idea as to what it was about. I have since seen it about 2 or 3 times. It’s still a stinker of a movie, but at least I understand it better.
What a fantastic career and tribute thread. I am stunned at how much of his career came before his iconic James Bond roles.
Did Connery die?
I'm also interested in the Robin and Marian film with Audrey Hepburn, which I have never even heard of... she's one of my favorite actresses.
Thanks for putting this together - the original James Bond!
Ursula Andress.
The only Bond Girl who made James Bond sing.
Yes, unfortunately. From Wikipedia:
Connery died in his sleep on 31 October 2020, aged 90, at his home in Nassau in the Bahamas.[1][2] His death was announced by his family and Eon Productions that same day;[114] his son stating that he had been unwell for some time.[114][115]
I didnt know until this thread, and am very sad. But he lived a good life and entertained tens of millions...not a life to be regretted.
I give the song an American interpretation. When they sing, "in October, we reported our victories; in October, our ancestors gave us a new world," I assume it refers to the Battle of Yorktown in October, 1781.
Hymn to Red October--Basil Poledouris (1989)
“Underneath the Mango Tree...”
RIP
Very handsome gent for most of his life, quite impressive really.
One of the lucky ones who got better looking as he aged.
In 1971 I went to see some movie, and it turned out to be part of a double feature with The Anderson Tapes. A very underrated crime caper that showed Connery could be smooth without having to be Bond.
He made it to 90.
I cant say much more right now.
Yeah, I knew he was a bodybuilder. It’s why he looks so beefy/brawny in his earliest roles.
Terrific thread, fmdj!
What a gorgeous man. He got better and better looking as he got older. RIP
My Top 5 (Non-Bond) Films Starring Sean Connery (that I still enjoy watching today):
Outland
Rising Sun
Russia House
The Hunt For Red October
The Man Who Would Be King
Thunderball was the first movie soundtrack LP that I ever purchased.
