I’m pessimistic here because I’m sure they’ll compromise, and you don’t compromise with evil.

True. But that’s only part one of the cure.
What do you do with the Islamists who were born in France? That’s part two. You’ve got to shut down the radical mosques. Mandate anti-Islamic teaching in the schools. Force the assimilation.
All hell would probably break loose. Liberals everywhere would cry and moan. The EU elite would issue condemnations. And yes, terrorism would increase for awhile.
It has to be done. But I won’t be holding my breath.

Sadly, I must agree. And here’s the problem. Study after study has shown that younger Muslims are - in general - more radical than their elders.
So you cannot wait this problem out. It’s only going to get worse. Time is on the side of the Islamists. And any compromise will only give them more time.
Europe needs to hold its nose and remove the Islamic invaders. It won’t be pretty, but likewise won’t take long.
There are political leaders that should have their neck stretched
for their acquiescence to and promotion of the Invasion of Europe.
Any modern day crusades will require much less travel than the original version. The French need only walk out their front doors.
France should round up their muslims, put them on container ships and send them to Kuala Lumpur under gunboat escort, and when they get there unload them and say “tag, you’re it”... in french of course.
