You can count on a DOS attack on FR. The leftists have done it every Election Day since 2000.

Why would you expect different this time?

Ugh. I still remember how disappointing it was when FR went down LAST election day. Would have LOVED to have celebrated that one with you all.

Two things will help a lot (and this isn’t a slam at you) - first, a moratorium on vanities, and second, a little restraint on posting monster graphics. Those two things save a lot of bandwidth. It’s really difficult to try to right-size a system both for maximum surge and to stay within a reasonable budget. (I speak from experience here.) If all FR does is slow down and not crash, that’s a win.

Nope! Go to sleep early and see what happened in the morning. No need to stress and not get a good nights sleep:-)

Crashes will be common, fueled by endless vanities and clickbait blogs.

Yeah, we don't need those on election night. As long as I can keep posting BabylonBee updates (the most trusted name in news), I'm happy.

Another way to save precious bandwidth. Pardon me if that isn’t still a word...

Remove any vowels from your spelling along with punctuations. That and the death penalty for vanities and graphics that exceed 5 megabytes might allow us to have a successful election night at FR.

Caring is caring.

FR will be fine. I wonder if the DUmp’s owner will shut down his site, like in 2016 when Trump’s victory was assured? (They were down for a few days iirc.) I guess he didn’t want anyone to see the anguish his little rat DUmmie toads were going to post about.

I’d rather not watch FR on election night. I’d much rather watch CNN and MSNBC and see them go into suicide mode as it becomes obvious they are losing. Me watching mainstream news once every 4 years....for a very good cause!

Is it even going to be a big night? What will be counted? What won’t be counted?

I want John king with his white map yelling at wolfie again “THERE ARE NO MORE VOTES, WOLF!!!!” Best moment of election night 2016.

But with some states letting people mail the ballots late ???

That seems like good advice. Whatever helps to keep the info flowing.

Young Turks. (I wonder if they’ll even bother this year after their 2016 humiliation.)

"Nope! Go to sleep early and see what happened in the morning. No need to stress and not get a good nights sleep:-)"

Preach it!

That's what I did in 2016. Woke up to the Drudge headline "THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!" with a picture of President Elect Trump. What a great feeling. Then went hunting and harvested my first eight point :-)

Not that I'm superstitious (ahem), but I'm not changing a thing this go around; other than I won't view the "Sludge Report" when I wake. There are so many great alternatives (Citizenfreepress, Rantingly, Whatfinger, Thelibertydaily, etc.)

Recommendations to get ready.

1) If using a cloud infrastructure, add a couple of servers for Nov 3rd and 4th.

2) work with your ISP to set up defense for DDOS attack

3) block new account sign up for the 3rd and 4th

4) take a backup / snapshot the night of the 2nd

5) Implement quality of service protections so that no one flow of traffic can hog the bandwidth

6) prioritize out bound traffic

7) reindex your database prior to Nov 2nd
