One bettor at BetMGM had an extremely eventful Sunday.

This particular bettor wagered a whopping $2.56 million (to win as much as $2.3 million) across 23 NFL bets on Sunday. And those bets were made on only four games — all of which were played at the same time.

The bettor had seven bets on three games: Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Football Team, Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tennessee Titans. There were also two wagers on the Green Bay Packers vs. Houston Texans game.

This guy sure love to splash money around with teasers, quarter and half bets. I remember the good ole days of whole game point spreads and money lines with a parley card thrown in. I wonder if the infamous Duffle Bag man took a beating when Rutgers beats Sparty?

Could somebody explain to me why supposedly rational people burn their money betting?
45 million unemployed. People denied necessary medical treatment because they can’t afford copays. People losing houses, businesses & life savings.
But yeah, go ahead & demonstrate how incredibly stupid you are.
Why do people still devote time energy & burn money on teams who hate them?

Are you sure you are in the right place, noob?

We usually don’t question how someone else chooses to spend THEIR OWN MONEY, or discuss how evil that is because people don’t have health care.

15 years ago I was coughing up $250+ per season for Direct TV season pass. Now I actually didn’t remember it was even football season until noticing this story.

90% of sports is garbage today.

He’s not burning money, he is willingly redirecting it.

He wasn’t calling for government regulation; he was merely pointing out how stupid it was.

Was that a question or the sound of a soapbox being stepped upon?

Not that I’m a betting man... It’s a fools game.

I do find it interesting it seemed there were a lot of betting site commercials after the lock downs and working from home started.

I usually look forward to the end of the elections, just so the commercials will go away.

But Colorado recently legalized sports betting. So now we're bombarded with:

Why would you bet $2.56M to win $2.3M?

I agree. I was one of those kids in the 1970s who could name almost any starting lineup in baseball, collected cards, etc. I enjoyed sports in the 80s for the most part. But then, other interests were found. I haven’t watched a Super Bowl since Cincinnati-SF Part 2 (what was that 30 years ago?). I don’t gamble on pro sports so why watch the NFL? Baseball has become a tedious joke and has been for decades. What big city can outspend the other big city. Yawn. Basketball: hey look I can bounce the ball and then shoot three pointers. Real skill there. Hockey has become comparatively neutered. Then of course there is the societal and political element which permeates now more so than ever.

ESPN and its ilk helped the spiraling of such interests. Not promoting the sport as much as it promoted certain players and then making them first-name stars. “Lebron Tweeted this today” with bad beat music in the background.

LOL! I liked basketball in the 80’s. Loved the Lakers and Celtics. Loved the Magic/Bird rivalry. Then they retired and the league leaders became the bad boys. (spit) Haven’t watched a game

Ironically, one of the few “man’s” sports left is golf. That’s because they are largely independent contractors. If you want to play you get yourself there and take care of your own business. There’s still a few gentlemen & grownups left in that sport.
