It takes coal to make steel. it takes natural gas to turn sand into glass.

taxpayer-funded ABC Australia is hyper-excited today about (Chinese) solar providing “one hour” of electricity, in the State that suffered blackouts because of “renewables”:

25 Oct: ABC Australia: All of South Australia’s power comes from solar panels in world first for major jurisdiction
By Richard Davies
For just over an hour on Sunday, October 11, 100 per cent of energy demand was provided by solar panels alone.
“This is truly a phenomenon in the global energy landscape,” Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) chief executive ***Audrey Zibelman said...
Any excess power generated by gas and wind farms on that day was stored in batteries or exported to Victoria via the interconnector...

Energy regulators say without careful management, grid stability could be at risk if there is more electricity going in than coming out.
If the interconnector is down, like it was for more than two weeks in February, that is when problems can occur...

SA Power Networks says any switch-off would only happen as a last resort and if grid stability was at risk.
“The system needs management,” company spokesman Paul Roberts said.
“In 2009, we probably didn’t have any solar panels connected to the grid; now we have a third of customers with solar on their roofs and this is going to become more of an issue as we go forward.”...

23 Jan 2017: Times-Union: PSC’s ***(Audrey) Zibelman, NY’s top energy regulator, going to Australia
Audrey Zibelman will oversee Australia’s electric grid in March
by Larry Rulison
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s top energy regulator, Audrey Zibelman, is leaving the state Public Service Commission for a job overseeing Australia’s electric grid.

Zibelman has led efforts to overhaul New York’s energy markets and the way utilities operate under a program called Reforming the Energy Vision, or REV...
Before joining the PSC, Zibelman had also been chief operating officer of the PJM, which oversees the electric grid in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and nine other states...

Right now, today, in America, can anyone name a smelter or foundry powered solely and entirely by wind, solar, or both?

Put the turbine (generator) at the top of a hill and the windmill at the bottom. When the wind blows, pump water up to a reservoir at the top of the hill and when it doesn’t, run the water through the generator and make electricity.

Hydro power is proven and clean, just use water for energy storage too.

Hydrogen fuel cells will be one of sources. At some time out
in the future don’t discount nuclear. Keep in mind that we
have progressed from burning wood to where we are today.

Have a good evening...

Those of you old enough .. there was a balsa wood plane we use to fly that utilized rubber bands!

Now if we could create rubber bands strong enough ...

Of course, the rubber band was to power the propel;er but the 747 doesn’t have a propeller!?

18 Apr 2009: Midland Reporter-Telegram: Spanish study finds 2.2 jobs destroyed for each green job created
President Obama has claimed that tax subsidies to alternative energy and environmental penalties to fossil fuels “can create millions of additional jobs and new industries.” Obama has even cited the government of Spain, “where they are making real investments in renewable energy.” However, a new study of the subsidy program implement by Spain reveals that every new job created by the Spanish government in the alternative energy area destroyed an average of 2.2 other jobs.

The study - prepared under the direction of Dr. Gabriel Calzada, an economics professor at Juan Carlos University in Madrid - discovered that only one in 10 jobs created by the program in Spain were of a permanent nature (operations, maintenance, etc.), and two-thirds consisted of temporary jobs in construction, fabrication and installation...

17 Apr 2019: GMB Union Scotland: GMB Scotland responds to renewable energy jobs report
Responding today (Wednesday 17 April) to the publication of the STUC Report, ‘Broken Promises and Offshore Jobs: Employment in the low-carbon and renewable energy economy’, GMB Scotland Secretary Gary Smith said:
“The report reinforces what we have consistently argued about the reality of renewables employment and the challenges posed by the transition to a low carbon economy. Ultimately, it shows what happens when politicians preach and don’t plan...

“The manufacture of 100 turbine jackets and five floating platforms for the Moray East and Kincardine projects will not take place in Fife but in Belgium, the North East of England, Spain and the United Arab Emirates; the result of our industry being controlled by European state subsided energy firms, Far East finance and Middle East sovereign wealth, and their supply chain partners of preference.
“This is what long-term political failure looks like and the price is paid in the loss of thousands of jobs and billions of pounds of prosperity to the Scottish economy, starving hope from working class communities in regions of economic deprivation like Fife.”
