As an elite competitive triathlete, César Villalba, 34, of Los Angeles knows his body. So, though he can perform “acceptably” on a pulmonary test months after his initial bout with COVID-19, that’s anything but “acceptable” for the professional designer who is used to racing around the world.
“I can do that with 60 percent of my lung capacity,” Villalba says with the heavy sigh of a man who would really just like to be better.
Villalba was never officially diagnosed with COVID-19, because he got sick before the pandemic hit full steam. “I had pneumonia, sore throat, fever for a week, and persistent coughing.”
After a couple of months, he thought he was better. Then on a plane trip to see his family in Spain, he got shortness of breath and his hands went numb. He went to the hospital when he landed, but they could find nothing wrong.
Villalba, who uses a Whoop strap to track his training, continued to see weird changes in his heart rate variability and recovery heart rate that didn’t match what he was doing in training. “And the shortness of breath would not go away. I was struggling to have a conversation over a coffee.”
His doctor eventually prescribed asthma medication. But it didn’t help. With no explanation, they ran blood scans and found that his blood clotting test showed a high risk for clotting—another symptom that can be linked to the coronavirus.
At that point, all signs pointed to COVID,” Villalba says. “The doctors are finding a lot of people with similar cases and in similar situations to me. They don’t know exactly how to treat them.”

I didn’t click through but this excerpt doesn’t say he was actually found to have had Covid-19.
Maybe they found it later?
Eh, nobody said that. Do what you want, just as I will do what I want. The article just points out that some cases still can be serious or linger on, that’s all.
That’s when Covid strikes truckers.

they found nothing wrong because all he did was hyperventilate. i did the same thing during labor & delivery

It means you have respiratory symptoms and body aches for maybe two months instead of two weeks.
This sort of lingering on effect in seemingly healthy people occurs sometimes with other usually moderate-at-worst respiratory diseases (which may well be other coronaviruses.)
I am fairly healthy, can and do sometimes spend entire afternoons (with some breaks) pushing a manual push-mower as much as 10 miles in 1 long afternoon. (I worked out what distance was actually involved in push mowing my Mom’s entire yard!) There might be some raking, too. This in my mid-60’s. I never smoked and do not have any chronic lung problems.
Yet, I had a cold almost 2 months ago (my entire family had the bug in varying degrees, tested for COVID-19 and came up negative), and I am STILL battling a sort of residual chest congestion and cough, with some shortness of breath on occasion. Every 2-3 years I get a particularly noteworthy case of this — I assume it’s due to one particular virus I am susceptible to and my immunity wears off.
I’d guess that if I do get it, COVID-19 might well give me a very hard time in this manner, despite my generally good health and endurance.
And then it’s gone.
But for the vast majority, this virus causes no symptoms or it’s just this year’s cold.

You may have nutritional deficiencies due to a malabsorption syndrome like celiac disease. At least that was the reason why I got severe colds for many years. My health improved dramatically after I went gluten free and began taking nutritional supplements.

Usually it means you’re a middle aged white woman who also has chronic fatigue hasn’t tested positive for COVID and can’t wait to vote for joe Biden.

No, more like three to five weeks.
Two months is extremely rare.
Every so often, the cold/flu season has a bug that lasts longer and bites harder. It’s always been the pattern.
