Mike Wallace/Rod Serling Interview, 1959 (Vanity)

Posted on 10/23/2020 7:20:09 PM PDT by Jamestown1630

For your weekend viewing pleasure:

Rod Serling was a brilliant man, and it’s interesting to compare his concerns about freedom of speech and censorship with what is going on in the US today.

I’ve often watched old Twilight Zone episodes, and wondered how our modern ‘liberals’ could have traveled so far from the great wisdom inherent in those stories:

(In the early days of cinema, someone said that 'movies' had the potential to inspire and raise up the idealistic nature of individuals to great heights, and to change the world. I think that has been true, to a great extent; but it all depends on the motives of the people making the movies or otherwise influencing us through the media.)

Love Rod Serling the man and of course Twilight Zone - but his brilliance in general - thank you so much.

Rod was a liberal, but back then they were relatively harmless.

Rod Serling did not punch Mike Wallace in the nose at the end of the interview. And for that I’m sorely disappointed.

Rod was a classic liberal. Back in those days, they believed that all people had rights. Today’s liberals are actually Marxists.

I believe that many ‘liberals’ back then were more in the way of classical liberalism. They were innovative, and more in tune with traditional American Principles than many others were, at the time.

At some point, the ‘liberals’ lost their way, and fell into becoming dictatorial, censorial, and intolerant LEFTISTS.

I remember when people would feel completely safe in putting a Pro-Trump sign in their window, outside of their house, or on their car.

Now, the mindless, ‘liberal’ NAZI component of our population has made us all afraid of freely expressing a sincere personal opinion.

I didn’t see anything that Mike Wallace did in that interview which would elicit from Serling a ‘punch in the nose’.

Those were different times. People, generally, had self-respect and respect for community; and followed rules of comportment that were generally understood. They knew how to handle themselves, even when being confrontational

(We’ll overlook Mr. Khrushchev and his shoe...)

Don’t worry. There’s nothing in any of them.

Right. Mike Wallace needed a punch in the nose just for general purposes.

Ha! I won’t argue with that. (But can I at least advocate that Chris Wallace needs a punch in the nose?)

Chris Wallace has probably gotten quite a few figurative ‘punches in the nose’ in recent weeks.

No need to add insult to injury :-)

What’s your favorite ‘Twilight Zone’ episode?

It would be very hard for me to pick my fave.

You are correct. That was a good description of how they have fallen from favor.
