WASHINGTON Brandon Straka recalls being bullied as a young gay person in the 80s and 90s, the homophobic slurs routinely used as taunts in his small Nebraska town.
At age 22, Straka left the state for New York. He felt that it would be easier to be himself and fit in with the political leanings of the big East Coast city.

Unfortunately, the gasping dying newspaper is now pretty much all pay-to-read.
The newspaper, once a premier daily in the Great Plains states, has eroded considerably since it evolved from conservative to "middle-of-the-road" to mildly left wing to radical left.
It used to cover seven states; now it covers only the western third of Iowa and the eastern third of Nebraska.
It endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden this year, but it has been endorsing Democrats since the early 1980s.

Agreed. Both Lincoln and Omaha papers have moved farther and farther left. My professors in the late 70's early 80's at UNL were liberals. The Poli-Sci prof was 100% anti-Nixon...making the "Final Days" required reading. At 19 I knew what I was reading was malarkey...I mean, com'on man!!!
