Get ready to get reacquainted with an altogether ooky family: A live-action sequel series to The Addams Family is in the works, with Tim Burton onboard as an executive producer, our sister site Deadline is reporting.
The new series, which is produced by MGM Television and is currently being shopped to networks and streamers, would be set in present day and focus on a grown-up Wednesday Addams and what the world would look like to her in 2020, per the official description.
In addition to serving as an EP, Burton is also working on a deal to direct all episodes of the series. (Burton is well known for directing films with a Gothic and horror bent, from Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow to a big-screen take on the TV vampire soap Dark Shadows.) Smallville veterans Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will be head writers of the new series and serve as showrunners as well as EPs.
The Addams Family, based on Charles Addams cartoons, debuted as a TV series in 1964 on ABC, running for two seasons and starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones as parents Gomez and Morticia Addams. The sitcom centered on an eccentric family of macabre outcasts, including Uncle Fester, disembodied hand Thing and hairy relative Cousin It. It inspired a 1991 film adaptation and a 1993 sequel, Addams Family Values, along with multiple animated series and a Broadway musical.
(But never the Anjelica Huston Morticia...)
“Until the CHEESE Whiz incident, but I’m feeling MUCH better now.”
Loved his character on Night Court more than Spiner’s.
the producers better be careful, it sounds like far too intelligent a program to attract any D voters
Nobody can play Uncle Fester better than Jackie Coogan did in the original TV series.
Lol! Who are we kidding? Today’s “Eb” will either be militantly gay (i.e. Megan Raponie), a Trans-Woman or ‘known to be at ease with’ Unmonitored Livestock.
This reminds me how different networks have had similar shows sometimes.
As I recall, the Addams Family debuted on ABC at the same time The Munsters were on CBS.
I Dream of Jeannie was on NBC when Bewitched was on ABC.
If only Bill Fagerbakke was about 40 years younger... :)
Yikes! Good call switching out Eddies. That kid was creepy!
Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie were produced in the same studio complex. Apparently there was some bad blood between them over script ideas being stolen (easy to do given their premise).
Wednesday will also be black now. In the interest of diversity, her female lover will be asian.
They might have some white appear as Thing, but they won’t pay them.
And her brother will be a useless layabout except as comic relief.
Carolyn Jones Morticia was pretty foxy.
Hollywood is soooooo creative.
Speaking of which I guess ABC is still trying to run with Roseanne, minus Roseanne? I tuned by a promo the other day, and dear Lord those people look horrible. John Goodman looks like he’s got one foot in the grave.
Wednesday has been back for a while now.

.
Goodman’s best role was in “True Stories” (1986).
Gonna have a hard time being better than Adult Wednesday on YouTube.
