There has to be a pressure differential. Something has to push on what ever is getting vacuumed. Vacuums don’t really suck, just like cold doesn’t flow out of stuff.

“The spacecraft will attempt to touch the surface of the asteroid Bennu...”

They should rename the asteroid “Toobin”..

Sounds like a fun game but only in the right setting and carefully screened individuals as participants. No photos or recording devices, could come back to haunt someone in twenty or thirty years when running for office.

This will hopefully not result in a change of trajectory pushing this asteroid towards earth... That would be a very big oops!

Read Live Free or Die for a good take on asteroid mining. John Ringo and Dr. Travis Taylor make a great team.

Isn't an asteroid supposed to hit Earth on election day or the day after?

I guess if the socialist dems drag Crooked Joe across the line, that might be apropos.

Hi.

The samples they collect better be gold, platinum and dilythium crystals.

Otherwise why go?

“Can a vacuum work in space?”

A black hole would suck things up quite nicely, but that’s a bit dangerous. And it’s a bother getting things out, once they get in.

Quite a remarkable story about the Japanese Hayabusa mission.

Took a licking and kept on ticking.

Full story in a Japanese music video...
