I wish the band members of Blue Oyster Cult would have consulted with me before settling on the lyrics to their new song, Florida Man.
Florida Man is my sweet spot. Ive been writing about Florida men and women since the mid-1980s. I have material. I could have helped.
Dont fear the rewrite, guys.
But instead, the 72-year-old guitarist, Donald Buck Dharma Roeser, plowed ahead without me.
Roeser lives in Maryland, but he spent more than a decade living in New Port Richey, so he figured he could come up with a song called Florida Man.
The whole country is on to Florida Man, Roeser told The Sarasota Herald-Tribune. The idea of that song is that theres a reason why the Florida Man exists.
The song, which is part of the The Symbol Remains the bands first studio album in 19 years imagines that Floridians have been permanently cursed by the Seminoles as payback for the tribes mistreatment at the hands of the conquistadors.
The song ends with this warning:
Dont you laugh, it could be you /
The Seminole curse always comes true /
You can jeer but you dont understand /
That any fragile soul can be the Florida Man
OK, geriatric rockers. Im fine with your theory of the case. Were all cursed here in Florida to be a pathetic bunch of losers due to some ancient spell.
As if getting financially scalped in tribe-owned casinos isnt punishment enough.

Southern Man - Neil Young
If this is a hit, they’ll all be wearing solid gold diapers.
She’s as beautiful as a foot
Hmmmm.
Well I hope Mr Roeser will remember
A Florida man don’t need him around anyhow...
Needs more cowbell.
Who? The quicklime girl? Mistress of the salmon salt? Her?
I went to Yucktube to find it, great album so far, thanks for posting the heads up, had no idea they put out a new album.
Edge of the World is my favorite so far.
Saw them live back in the 70’s. I was functionally deaf for 3 days after.
I saw BOC in 1977, loud but great sound.
They were not as loud as the Who.
I know many of you have it, but I maintain this is the greatest live album owned by the fewest people, but it should be in EVERYONE'S collection. The reprise of Buck's Boogie usually causes my car to set land-speed records.
For those who care, the church on the cover is identified online as St. John's Chapel in Westchester, NY. Road trip...
Got it.
Lucky you and the other Doodles!
Eric is STILL the hottest front man on earth.
:)
I heard someone say.
I’m boned like a saint, with the consciousness of a snake...
/Vera Gemini, my sweet Boa passed away the other day after many years of giving me joy
....and don't forget my dog, fixed and consequent...
