Sacramento Bee News Guild Honeybee @SacBeeGuild · We have alarming news.

Were urging the company to reconsider. Here's our letter to McClatchys new CEO about how this could hurt our community.

By focusing on computer clicks, he’s trying to get them ready to “learn to code”.

This is going to kill their diversity and equity stories.
The diverse communities theyre writing about dont read the newspaper, either in print or online.

This would be a great time for them to go after the Hunter Biden corruption story!
They would rather be standing on street corners begging for food than covering the Biden scandal.
Hopefully their readers will make it so!

The old mantra was, “if it bleeds, it leads”.
And I can’t remember the exact formula, but it used to be something along the lines of 1 local death equals 100 in New York, 1000 in Europe, and 100,000 in Africa for news value.
Time to get back to basics. The current media formula of Yesterday’s news Tomorrow certainly isn’t working.

Actually this could work. Newspapers used to hire editorialists known as “sob sisters”, who only kept their jobs by writing editorials so obnoxious that the paper would get hate mail. It was assumed that people that upset would continue to buy the paper to continue to be upset.
No hate mail and they were immediately fired. Some of them went to the length of sending themselves hate mail.
But most objective news is rather boring, so it should be under different rules. That is why these people were called “reporter”, and opinion people were called “journalists”.
American needs tens of thousands of good reporters. Media needs to get rid of so many opinion writers masking as reporters if America can ever truly have a decent, free press again.

The story can be great, but it’s the headline that draws the clicks. Bad or uninteresting or uninspiring headline = fewer clicks.
