ROMNEY slams Trump for refusing to denounce QAnon on national television

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Friday slammed President Trump for refusing to denounce QAnon, a group that has spread false information on social media about COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement and which the FBI warns is a domestic terror threat.

“The president’s unwillingness to denounce an absurd and dangerous conspiracy theory last night continues an alarming pattern: politicians and parties refuse to forcefully and convincingly repudiate groups like antifa, white supremacists and conspiracy peddlers,” Romney said in a statement tweeted Friday afternoon.

“Similarly troubling is their silence regarding anti-vaxxers, militias and anarchists,” he added. “Rather than expel the rabid fringes and the extremes, they have coddled or adopted them, eagerly trading their principles for the hope of electoral victories.”

Trump pointedly declined to criticize QAnon during a nationally-televised town hall Thursday evening when Savannah Guthrie of NBC News asked him to debunk a conspiracy theory about Satan-worshiping politicians and celebrities being part of a global sex abuse conspiracy.

“I know nothing about it. I do know they are very much against pedophilia. They fight it very hard, but I know nothing about it,” Trump replied.

It was the second time in less than a month that the president has refused to condemn a fringe group viewed as sympathetic to his cause.

During his debate with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Sept. 29, Trump refused to condemn white supremacist groups when pressed by moderator Chris Wallace.

Trump referenced one such group, the Proud Boys, by name and said: “Stand back and stand by. But I’ll tell you what, I’ll tell you what, somebody’s got to do something about antifa and the left, because this is not a right-wing problem.”

Trump’s refusal to condemn the Proud Boys and similar groups prompted an immediate backlash from Republicans on Capitol Hill.

The next day Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters: “It was unacceptable not to condemn white supremacists,” associating himself with the remarks of Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), the only African American in the Senate GOP conference, who called on Trump to correct his statement.

Romney on Tuesday criticized Trump and Democrats for contributing to what he called a “hate-filled morass.”

“I have stayed quiet with the approach of the election,” Romney said in another statement posted on Twitter. "But I’m troubled by our politics, as it has moved away from spirited debate to a vile, vituperative, hate-filled morass that is unbecoming of any free nation—let alone the birthplace of modern democracy."

Romney warned that “rabid attacks” back and forth between Trump and Democratic leaders such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) “kindle the conspiracy mongers and the haters who take the small and predictable step from intemperate word to dangerous action.

He cited Trump calling Biden’s running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), “a monster” and Pelosi’s tearing up of Trump’s State of the Union speech on national television in February.

People still haven’t figured out that good ol’ Mitt is doing the things he’s doing and saying the things he’s saying because he is eyeball deep in the crime and corruption himself.

He needs Trump defeated as if his own life depends on it. Because, in a very real sense, his own life depends on it.

I’ll wager old Mitt is addicted to political corruption and some kind of weird sex perversion as he is to the media spotlight.

I don’t get why they are so afraid of Qanon?

They claim it is full of offline violence, but I haven’t seen on darn instance of ‘claimed’ or tracked violence to Qanon?

“”Similarly troubling is their silence regarding anti-vaxxers,””

So now everyone has to be in favor of vaccines or they’re some kind of kook? Try telling that to Robert Kennedy, Jr., Mitt. Try doing a little bit of reading instead of parroting words!

“”I still don’t know what the hell it is!””

You aren’t alone - I don’t have any idea what QAnon is. That question put to the president in what was billed as a “town hall” was just plain stupid. But what’s new? Certainly asking stupid questions isn’t new. If someone says they don’t have any idea what something is, why would anyone question that? If you don’t know, you don’t know UNLESS you’re a member of the demoncrat party or a pretend journalist.

Does Mitt think we should all accept the oddities about his own religion?

He definitely has something in mind. Another old fool who thinks it will all slip away from him?

He should denounce Qanon. I mean all those fires they set and businesses they destroyed...

Oops...well then for taking over city blocks and making Qautonomous zones...

Oops...well then for shooting down in cold blood people who disagree with them...

Oops...well then for blocking highways and emergency vehicles from reaching hospitals...

Wrong group again...GEEEZ...just exactly what has Qanon done to require denouncing and who are they then?

Mitt blows it again, my my how his mouth gets him into tons and tons of trouble, ha!

besides, what business does he have to demand that a sitting president “denounce” some odd website or other? maybe the president should also “denounce” some odd religion or other? or some odd fast food menu item or other? Mr. Romney, a sitting president, (even one of your own party — remember? you’re supposedly a Republican!?) a sitting president does have a lot of important things to do in that job.
We’re paying him to mind our national defense and many additional important things, not waste his time “denouncing” some odd website that a Utah senator doesn’t happen to like.

Just saying
Thanks
