Hillarious!
You know where it’s going with the quote, “It’s a post-colonial meta-narrative about the horrific ways that some people, especially white people, are compelled to make nature about themselves.”
She’s a complete hoot!

One of the strangest horror movies was
Night of the Lepus (1972)
Mutated oversized rabbits terrorize rural community.
To: kosciusko51
DeForest Kelly was a hoot in that.

My scariest were:
“The Shining” — although the book was MUCH scarier than the movie.
“The Exorcist”. When I saw it my husband worked nights, so I went with a group at work. Got home around 11 p.m. to an EMPTY HOUSE. Did not sleep well for days. The fact that I believe in possession made it worse.
“Something Evil” — an early Spielberg made-for-TV movie. I hardly remember it now, but do recall that it scared me a lot!

I’ve tried to understand why people think zombie movies are “horror”. I’ve never watched a whole one, but seeing clips here and there, I can’t stop laughing. They’re hysterical.

Your first 2 movies are the same as mine. Went with a group to see the Exorcist. Bet I didn’t sleep for a week. Was working nights and reading the Shining. I’d get home to an empty house and in bed about 3am and pick up that book. Scared the begeezus out of me. Book was much scarier.

In the book, the topiary animals that coming to life still gives me chills. That wasn’t even in the movie.

I remember when the movie came out and I was so excited to see it. After.....meh. Book was so much better. But then, they usually are.

The Descent is pretty freaky, in large part because theoretically-speaking it could be a true story.
I agree. That is one scary movie. I also liked the sequel, The Descent 2.

Your idea of what constitutes a horror film is clearly much different than mine. I should have known that from your list of favs.

House on Haunted Hill (1959). Scared me more than any other movie.
Me, too. I think it's because it was the first horror movie I ever saw (at age 8). Your first horror movie is the scariest, because after that you've been desensitized somewhat.
