Is there something about “matching” donations that bypasses Federally-mandated campaign spending limits?

If you send me your bank account information,
I will match your donation 1000%.

I’ve been getting those too. I also asked people on FR and they told me they get the same and is from the Trump campaign. I think they’re from the Trump campaign but to be sure, never donate directly with your phone.

If I want to donate, I go directly to the Donald Trump website and donate from there. I feel that’s the safe way to go.

I hit the unsubscribe link in RNC/GOP emails a couple of weeks ago because they were becoming nonsense and I was getting many per day.

Let me be clear, mine came to my phone as text messages (not by email) I just read your post again.

Treat it as you would an email from your bank. If you want to donate, go directly to the Trump website (and not thru any link in an email).

“800% matching” means they want to trick you into giving them your personal information so they can steal from your bank accounts or incur credit card debt in your name.

This is the fourth such post I’ve seen over the past few weeks.

If you understand that 8x your donation will be matched, you understand.

If you want to give them money, give it. Why come here and ask obvious, set up questions.

“I am totally confused by all these emails that say they will double, triple, quadruple, or more if I make a political donation. Fine. But where would that money come from? I don’t understand.”

They don’t either. It’s word salad. To make you think that even if your donation is small, it will get magnified by their “matching” sums so that you’ll feel better about the amount you donate, even if it is a piddly amount because that’s all you can afford. It’s a psychological ploy to part you from your money because you are doing something good by helping them because they are matching you, and that will be more beneficial to the cause.

I have contributed very small amounts or have bought a hat or mug because I want Trump to win, and I just ignore all the campaign ploys they use when soliciting money. I must get about 2,000 GOP emails a day right now (slight exaggeration) begging for money, lol. I just want Trump as my President because he’s been a great conservative leader. Period.

If I was rich, I’d contribute a lot. Just give what you can afford to give and ignore the marketing ploys, although maybe they work or my guess is they wouldn’t bother doing them. Bottom line, Trump must win and anyone who can contribute any amount at all should do so. Soros and Company are flooding Biden’s campaign with money. Biden’s Ad’s are everywhere. CONTRIBUTE TO TRUMP IF YOU CAN POSSIBLY DO SO!!!!!

It’s a lie. Could be to steal your personal info or just make you feel important for your pathetically small donation. The ones I really laugh at are donations to candidates where campaign finance law would make the match illegal from 1 person or corporate sources. You also have to wonder why they would bother with phones or websites to collect an extra $1 with $8 in hand for no effort? The simple answer is that the 800% doesn’t exist.

As near as I can understand it, the RNC does those matches. Candidates have specific limits we can give, but those limits don’t exist at the RNC level.

I give directly to Trump and the individual candidates, so I am not matched.

So be it. Their money will still be allocated, and likely in much the same way.

I like Trump a lot, but all those emails have become truly obnoxious. Whoever is running that email campaign, do they really think it works? I delete them as fast as I can. I’ve already donated to the campaign.

Sort of has the hallmarks of a Multi Level Marketing. Or a Ponzi scheme. I have gotten the same emails on my Iphone from the Trump organization, all because of my initial paltry $10 donation 6 weeks ago. I must say I find it kind of annoying since they all seem to come bearing the pawprints of Eric or Donald Jr., who I’ve come to feel are a bit overbearing.......but nobody’s perfect.

“The money comes from donors who have reached their limits so they will match other donations so they are not breaking the finance laws!!”
Ding! Ding! Ding! We finally have a WINNER!!!. The vast majority of responses are uninformed NONSENSE. This response is a FACT. The RNC has partnered with the Trump reelection campaign and Mega Donors to provide Matching funds or multiples thereof, thereby taking advantage of a loophole in the law put in place years ago by Dems.
I reviewed every response to your question before answering. The vast majority of responses are Pure Ignorance.

This “matching” promotion has become a fund-raising technique trend over the past two years for all kinds of non-profits. Very annoying. It winds up looking like a big scam, even when it’s not. It’s a legal fiction. They get someone to commit an amount they would have been giving anyway and then use that pledge as a hope for incentive to those they are apporaching. It’s usually not a scam to get your information, just a darn annoying fundraising technique.
