24/Vanity

Posted on 10/10/2020 12:55:57 PM PDT by Allen In Texas Hill Country

I'm in the middle of Miami Vice. Actually season 4 and thought I'd take a small break and watch the first episode of 24. WOW, was it explosive in more ways than one. Its been 20 years so I don't remember anything except for Kiefer Sutherland. Something really good to look forward to after Miami Vice. And back to Miami Vice, In one episode, out of nowhere, Sonny Crocket got married. Sure wonder how thats going to be folded into future episodes???? If one hasn't watched/seen 24 put it on your list!!

I’ll add ‘Justified’ as a series you need to watch.
**********************************************************
I watched Justified right before starting Miami Vice. IMHO Justified was the 2nd best series on TV. Right behind Aiias.

And I’ll get to The Americans after 24.

Although Justified was great, it might be alittle over the top for father in law.

The 24 threads on FR were the best. If you can find the threads that correspond to the episodes you’re watching, you would love it!

LOL on Ava and Boyd. We use to take bets on how many people would be killed in each episode. And as you say, they were all Justified.
It didnt hurt that Timothy Oliphant was yummy. Excellent series. Some great bad guys.

One thing I’ve never figured out is the speed which the government can fire and rehire employees in Jack Bauer’s unit. Have you ever tried to fire a civil servant? It won’t happen in 24 hours or even 2400. But three or four could be fired in a feat of pique in one episode during a worldwide crisis.

Another good one is The Game—6 part British mini series.

We watch alot of the British shows. Not as much smut as American shows. Also, we check most of these programs out at library as we dont have cable, etc.

I agree. ‘Justified’ is for a certain sector. I probably wouldn’t watch it/recommend it for my 83 yo Mom. ;)

Oliphant does not trip my trigger. Now, SELLECK? Oh, Baby! ;)

I just loved everything about that show. I love Walton Goggins (Boyd) in anything; I think he’s getting another movie or a series in the near future? He’s just so goofy-looking, but that SMILE of his! I can see why Ava fell for him. (Yes, we spelled our Eva-cat’s name incorrectly, but we didn’t want our Niece to think we named the cat after her, LOL!)

Jere Burns was fabulous, and I actually cried when Dewey got ‘Justified.’ Loved that character. The other Crowe family members were superb, and you cannot beat Stephen Root in any roll he plays. Loved Mary Steenbergen (sp?) and Sam Elliot. They were a nice surprise!

“I’m in the middle of Miami Vice.”

The old, original Miami Vice? (Did they ever do a re-make? I don’t recall.)

Longmire was the best! The only reason we joined Netflix. Then we dropped Netflix.

We didn’t like the end — who he ended up with. The show was excellent, though.

Last week, DH said he watched some low-rated really really awful movie with Robert Taylor in it. Said he look terrible — like maybe he has a drinking problem.

We binge-watched “Bosch” recently on Prime, on the recommendation of Rush Limbaugh. Love it! Now we’re waiting to see if the seventh/final season will be filmed. It stopped with WuFlu.

“Now, SELLECK? Oh, Baby! ;)”

We’re on the same page! He and Gerald McRaney.

I used to have a pic of Selleck on my desk at work — that one in the red aloha shirt looking back over his shoulder. Once when I took vacation, a temp filled in for me. When I got back, my friend told me the temp had said, “Boy, her husband sure is good looking!”

Since your title of the vanity didn't explain much, I clicked.

I didn't watch Miami Vice the first time around, never watched 24 either and didn't ever watch the other hokey show you mentioned, Knight Rider, so why should I break my perfect record?   Nothing to see here, I pass.

Thank you for the ‘Bosch’ recommendation. I’ve read a lot of the books about that character, if that’s Harry Bosch we’re talking about?

Author Michael Connelly?

“Boy, her husband sure is good looking!”

LOL! We should all be so lucky! My Beau IS ‘Movie Star Handsome’ for an ‘old guy’ - just not quite Selleck. God certainly did a great job when He designed Tom, LOL!

Selleck has a special place in my heart. My two best girlfriends and I were in the Army together. Every Wednesday evening, when we were stateside, whether we were stationed together or apart, we would tune in and watch ‘Magnum’ and have a glass of wine and ‘do’ our nails, together.

You could wear nail polish - but it had to be clear or pale pink. And a few years later we could wear pierced earrings, but they had to be diamond, gold or pearl studs. It’s the little things that give you comfort when you’re living in a foxhole that you designed and dug yourself, LOL!

They’re still my BFFs, going on 42 years, now. :)

I told my husband that Tom was the only man I would ever leave him for. Been married 42years now, guess it’s not happening. 8-)
Our favorite season was the second with Margo Martindale (she was also good in The Americans) and Mykelti Williamson.
Jere Burns was also good in Burn Notice. Another great show.
