Barr tells Republicans Durham report won't be ready by election

Attorney General Bill Barr has begun telling top Republicans that the Justice Department’s sweeping review into the origins of the Russia investigation will not be released before the election, a senior White House official and a congressional aide briefed on the conversations tell Axios.

Why it matters: Republicans had long hoped the report, led by U.S. Attorney John Durham, would be a bombshell containing revelations about what they allege were serious abuses by the Obama administration and intelligence community probing for connections between President Trump and Russia.

Reminds me of 1996, when Kenneth Starr announced there would be no more action from his office until after the election. Many of us viewed him as the cavalry coming over the hill to save the day by exposing the truth about the Clinton crime family (i.e. saving the country from a second Clinton term), but it never happened.

On the other hand, we can certainly expect more October Surprises from the Left between now and Nov 3. It is always a one way street, isn't it?

Well, to quote a former president, after the 2020 election, President Trump will have a lot more flexibility. I would hope that he would immediately fire people who deserve to be fired. That might include Barr. It might include Wray. It might include Haspel.

I do not like the idea of being held hostage before the election. But after the election? Any arguments in favor of going slowly need to be tossed in the dumpster. At some point the excuses need to stop.
