Looking for references or links to sources of independent or concierge type doctors or medical services.
Anyone know of reliable sources for this information?
Before i went on Medicare i would tell the receptionist i was self pay and ask if there was a discount. In all but one fase the discount amounted to anywhere from 10 to 80 percent of what they charged the insurance. I had kudney stones surgically removed about one third their billing rate. Ran about 4k. The differece is they get the cash now as opposed to next year sometime.
Back in the day, I had a physican as a good and regular customer. I had to go to his office to get payed, he did not respond to mailed invoices.
I went one day to collect and his nurse held up the cigar box..... “No cash in the till today”
He payed his service providers in cash that was ever registered on his ledgers
You may have some luck searching for a “direct care practice”. Also, your own doctor may belong to his direct care practice association at the state level, which generally has a directory.
We have belonged to a direct care practice for years now and really really like it. Cheaper and better, and paired with a Christian healthcare ministry it is much better than the unaffordable care act (1500.00 a month with 12500.00 deductible vs approx 500.00/month and 300.00 deductible).

I believe it is called Doctors Hospital in Oklahoma. All cash, up front pricing.
Also Star Medica in Mexico.
My long-time family practice doctor switched to the concierge model a couple of years ago. He went with MDVIP which contracts with doctors all over the country. It’s wonderful that when I call him he actually answers his phone and has time to talk.

But they’ve been this way for years especially since Dr. Wright, specifically was raided by the Feds and his research taken....he successfully sued them.
I think its a good idea. Modern American medicine overemphasises through-put and production. Concierge lets docs get away from that.
One caveat is, at least in my community, concierge docs are no better or worse than the production docs. Its not like you have to get a special certificate or something. However, they do get to spend more time with the patients.
