It is announced with a flourish of trumpets that Fusion has at last been effected, that an electoral ticket has been nominated for which the Breckinridge and the Douglas Democrats and the Bell and Everett men of this State are expected to vote. The utmost which this arrangement can effect is the defeat of LINCOLN. No one of its friends expects anything more from it. Nobody anticipates for a moment that either of the other candidates can possibly be elected by the people. The Fusionists will have accomplished all they hope for if they can defeat a choice by the people and throw the election into the House of Representatives. No such result has followed a Presidential election since 1824, and the people, consequently, are in the main ignorant of what will be the workings of an election by the House. Perhaps some believe that as such an election was had in 1824, resulting in the election of JOHN QUINCY ADAMS, no evil result is to be expected from the same process now. But we must remember that the country is hardly the same country now that it was then. Then the influence of the men of earlier and simpler days was still felt; the doctrine that "to the victors belong the spoils" had not then been promulgated. Since that time the country has made mighty strides in outward growth, and mighty strides in extravagance of expenditure, and in corruption and dishonesty as well. Since then there has arisen, Mr. BUCHANAN being witness, "the growing and dangerous evil," "of the employment of money to carry elections," and the lobby has gained an influence then never dreamed of.

Wow... if the folks of 1860 could see how much further down that hellish road weve travelled now.
PIGLOSI: The postal system is 2020 election central.....do not let the President
deter anybody from voting. Don't suppress the vote scare people, intimidate, or
allow Republicans to diminish the role of the postal system in Democrats quest for power.
Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution ...
Section 4: Vice PresidentialCabinet declaration
Section 4 is the only part of the Amendment that has never been used.
It allows other executive officials to declare the President unable to do his job.
The Vice President must agree to do this.
