HONOLULU (AP) — Zan Timtim doesn’t think it’s safe for her eighth-grade daughter to return to school in person during the coronavirus pandemic but also doesn’t want her exposed to a remote learning program that misspelled and mispronounced the name of Queen Liliʻuokalani, the last monarch to rule the Hawaiian Kingdom.
Timtim’s daughter is Native Hawaiian and speaks Hawaiian fluently, “so to see that inaccuracy with the Hawaiian history side was really upsetting,” she said.
Even before the school year started, Timtim said she heard from other parents about racist, sexist and other concerning content on Acellus, an online program some students use to learn from home.

Waaa. Every damn day people mispronounce my name and no one in my family was even an emperor.
But Hawaiians are “special” people I guess.
30% of all jobs now must go to them for this misdeed. That will make eight groups who all get 30% of all jobs. Hmmm. Math be gone. /sarc
umm just because of heritage doesn’t make the history more correct. Last tribal presentation I went to from the local 3 tribes each claimed they whole state as their native historic territory...
At least they didn’t reference The Queen’s daughter, Princess Kamoniwanalaya.
She could get off twitter and contact the teacher or learning program to fix the problem in five minutes. Yeah, yeah, she’d rather complain for the next two weeks.
This is why I’m gaining confidence that Pres. Trump will comfortably win re-election. One side is serious and realistic. The other side is not.

I resent the fact that kids are being taught that Christopher Columbus was a mass murderer.

Same with me. I understand why they mispronounce it, and the mispronunciations don’t bother me in the least. Some people, like this Hawaiian woman, make an issue out of everything they can.
One drawback would likely have been Alaska 4-9. Probably very short lived as well.
