A 17-foot, 2-inch great white shark weighing an astounding 3,541 pounds was captured Friday in the Northwest Atlantic by researchers with OCEARCH.
She is a very old creature, a proper Queen of the Ocean and a matriarch. She has all the scars, healed wounds and discolorations that tell a deep, rich story of her life going back years, Fischer told McClatchy News.
You feel different when youre standing beside a shark of that size compared to the ones in the 2,000-pound range. Its an emotional, humbling experience that can make you feel small. You feel insignificant standing next to such an ancient animal.
The shark was fitted with three tags, including one to record how deep she goes and another that will track her movements for the next five years.

My first was a 1955 Mercury Monterrey.
Yellow w/ black top.
It had a button you pushed and it lubricated itself.
So does looking at that site and remembering all the delicious mako steaks I ate in the 80s make me a bad person?

But you know how fishermen are. It will have grown to 34 ft by the quitting time.
Btw, that Kitner kid (Jeffrey Voorhees) still lives on Martha's Vineyard and told this cool story about Lee Ferro, the actress who played his mother (who died of COVID19 this year):
I see her occasionally around the town. At the restaurant I run there is a sandwich called the Alex Kintner Burger and one time this lady came in with her friend and I recognised instantly it was my mother from the film.
So I said approached her table and said Can I ask you a very personal question, if you think this is a little odd tell me to go away, but do you believe in reincarnation, because I think I died years ago and you look like my mother from a previous life.
And Lee realised who I was and so she went along with the joke and said Oh my god, I had a son that died years ago in the ocean! And everyone in the restaurant, including her friend were just wondering what the hell was going on!
That’s a great story.
Add—she swam.
True
I hope not. I’ve about half of a 5ft blacktip in the freezer. ;)
