Not sure about your responsiblity question. Tell callers the person they are calling died and left you their cell phone.

You may be able to get certain numbers blocked form calling you. I don't even know my cell phone number because the service has changed it several times. Even if you get the number removed form the internet you will not stop junk mail calls. Small claims court is not effective either.

What’s your phone number? I’m sure someone here can fix it.

Happened to me in WA State. Some very graphic phone calls and text, day and night. I kept telling them wrong number. Finally got mad as hell and started yelling in the phone that I was going to call the Policia. They understood that and the calls/texts ceased

LOL! I never thought of that. I might mention that Petra is out with her boyfriend.

I once had a number in a college town where I live that was very similar to the university president’s. Only two digits were transposed from my number. Got a lot of calls for the wife. Thought about telling the caller that she was in the shower after a wild night of Whoopie.

Search the internet for your phone number see who lists.
If bill collectors call you they are getting number from credit bureau, ask them nicely which one may and for the debtors full name if you dont have it
but realistically there are only 3 so contact them all

” It just prohibits solicitors from calling you.”

If that were only true!

Get/download a cell phone call blocker ap.

I use CallDetector on my Tracfone. It is not 100%, but it is better than nothing.

Your number may have been ‘harvested’. I bought a new Tracfone recently with a new number. I gave the number to 2 relatives. I do get occasional spam calls and, more recently, spam texts even on the new number.

If the call is a number or ID than I do not recognize, I just click on the ‘block call’ feature. If it is important, they will leave a message on my voice mail. Otherwise, they are ‘blocked’ the next time they call.

Download a fax machine sound file. Keep it cued up on your computer. When one of those calls come in just start the file and lay the phone by the speaker. When it's done just hang up.

Now if you're one of those who does all their internetting on the phone, then I don't know.

There are also 'Disconnected number' sound files.

I had this happen about 4 years ago and some gal put “my” number down as hers and it went to all the collection agencies.

I had an app to block numbers and as soon as I got one blocked them.

I know it’s a pain but you don’t want to have to change your number.

I just subscribed to RoboKiller. Hopefully, this does away with some of the spam calling and give them the correct idea that I’m not the right party they’re calling. Some really funny outgoing messages are available, too.

You’re right, I don’t want to change numbers. Doing so risks the high probability that I’ll get an even more recently recycled number, risking getting even MORE calls for the person who used to have it. I’m afraid I’d compound the problem.

When you “block” a number, what does that do with the call? Does it send it directly to my voicemail? Does it provide an automated message that this phone number has been blocked? Does it just not ring? What?

One of the posters mentioned the donotcall list (search it out) but it works only on “ethical” junk callers. Ultimately, the only thing that has worked for me are two things.

One... I only answer my cell for known callers meaning their phone number and name are in my phone’s address book or is a known caller ID that makes sense to me. Other than that, I don’t answer the phone.

Two... if someone has called and has not left a message, I open up the phone number and block it. Doing the this, I have reduced junk calls from several per day to a handful per month.

I use an app called Hiya. It’s free, identifies spam or fraud calls, sends a text saying ‘I don’t know you, text me and state your business’, and lets me block the number easily. Works well for me.

About 30 years ago, our phone number was one digit different from one of the big churches in town. When the church printed their literature, a typo showed our number.

We were forEVer getting calls for that church. We begged and pleaded with them to revise their stationery, but they wouldn’t. Fine.

So when got calls for the church we’d tell the caller the church’s new number was xxx-xxxx — the number to one of the “massage parlors” in town. Within a couple weeks, the church corrected the typo and we stopped getting calls.

We used to rent a house that had a phone already installed there was some nitwit who kept calling for Patrick. Finally I told them, "just a minute," and then called, "Hey Patrick! I think it's your old boyfriend! Did you tell him about you having AIDS yet?"

For some reason they never called back.

Okay, the pat “change your number” advice is poorly thought out. So, I’d go from a 20-year established phone number to a recycled number that someone else had possibly only 6 months ago. How does that help anything? I’m likely to get a lot MORE calls for previous phone number owners.

This problem only started about 5 years ago, so someone was erroneously connected with my phone number at that time. For the previous 15 years, there were no problems at all. The problem is the current listing on the internet. I need to know how to get that deleted.

I had the same issue when my phone number was erroneously published in a commodities magazine. I kept getting calls at all hours from investors asking about the price of soy beans and corn. I quoted them a price way below actual prices. A retraction was published to all magazine subscribers within a day or two and the calls ceased.

I wish I could do the MovieFone voice as good as Kramer. I’d have some fun with it.

I would say negotiate...... ask them to come over and let’s talk price. Where? you know where, you want to buy

When a collector calls say I sent you a check last week. The check’s in the mail.

When an irate husband calls say I’m sorry but she came on to me and I’m sure you know she is fantastic.
